Disney announces new Star Wars: Rivals action shooter for Android and iOS

Disney continues to capitalize on the Star Wars franchise and what better way to keep fans entertained than another Star Wars mobile game. Lucasfilm and Disney have just announced the upcoming availability of Star Wars: Rivals, the “first real-time Star Wars competitive action shooter for mobile devices.”

The game seems to have been built on the same pay-to-win system that currently plagues Star Wars Battlefront 2 game, but if you haven't played it yet, here's how Star Wars: Rivals will work.

So, you can compete in PvP arenas by challenging players cross-platform in real-time combat. You can swap heroes during fights to match your play-style or needed strategy. However, in order to have a solid team of heroes, you'll have to unlock them.

Apparently, the rarer a hero is, the better will perform in the arenas. As you advance in the Arena Leagues, you will be able to unlock increasingly rare and powerful heroes, including iconic characters like Princess Lei, Poe Dameron, and Lando Calrissian.

All characters come with their own weapons and special abilities that players will have to learn to master, such as Darth Vader's Force choke and Han Solo's DL-44 blaster.

Obviously, the game will be available for free, but it will feature in-app purchases that cost real money from $4.99 to $99.99.

Android players who pre-register for Star Wars: Rivals on Google Play will get a special bonus: exclusive access to death trooper support units. On the other hand, iOS player will get exclusive access to Rebel Special Forces (SpecsForces) support units for a limited time when the game launches.
