Cupertino blown away by demand for Apple iPhone 5

Cupertino blown away by demand for Apple iPhone 5
After the first day of pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 5, demand has been so strong that Apple says it was "blown away". Pre-orders, which started the day with shipments expected on September 21st, are now delayed to October 5th for some models. All three variants of the Apple iPhone 5 at all three U.S. carriers holding  pre-orders are sold out of inventory being held for pre-orders except for the 32GB and 64GB models at Sprint.

Apple spokeswoman Nat Kerris said, "Pre-orders for iPhone 5 have been incredible. We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response." For Apple, it is a major turnaround from the introduction last year of the Apple iPhone 4S. Only an incremental update, many had expected a larger display and was stunned that the device had the same old 3.5 inch screen.

It should be interesting to see what the first day sales totals are for the Apple iPhone 5. Last year, 1 million units of the Apple iPhone 4S were reserved on the first day of pre-orders, compared to 600,000 units of the Apple iPhone 4 that were pre-ordered on the first day.

The Apple iPhone 5 will be at Verizon, AT&T and Sprint locations as well as in the Apple Stores starting on September 21st

I'm blown away as well. Are people so naive to buy an incremental upgrade over the iPhone 4S? I know many people who jumped the ship from 4S to 5. If they'd moved from 3GS/4 to 5, it'd been unsurprising. Brainwashed totally by Apple. The 4S ones should have waited for the 5S/6 before jumping to 5.

Me too i think this is just showing off the unreal things. That's the way the wanna show people that is in demand. oh gosh! People wake up. What is so great about iPhone 5.

This can mean two things: Many people have actually ordered the iPhone and are idiots to buy this instead of waiting for a few weeks before reviews came up or Apple purposely manufactured low number of units, will report it as pre-orders through the roof and hike demand.

Didn't the SIII supposedly have 10 million pre-orders? You probably forgot the part where you can return the device if you don't like it. 600,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 4 in the first 24 hours over 1 million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S in the first 24 hours If Apple at all plans to even match initial sales of the iPhone 4S, faking shortages may not be in their best interest, especially when they're expected to sell about 30 million iPhone 5 by the end of the year.

Agree with u, if this was the case Apple would be celebrating and the headlines would read "APPLES PRE-ORDER SALES FOR IPHONE 5 SURPASSED THOSE OF IPHONE 4S and since this is happenning we see a manufactured posting to lead people astray ..Apple at it again.

Dude! What have iphone fans done to offend u? Are they insulting android phones? Are they spending your money to upgrade to the iphone 5? Wht is it? Why do you have this much hate for ppl who, for the most part, you dont know and have never met and will most likely never meet?

94. Aeires unregistered

Actually, they have. iFans have been making fun of Android since the G1. They've been looking down their noses since the beginning. That's why so many Android users hate them and Apple.

Not me I'm primarily an apple user who loves the hell outta android too. My plan is to pick up the 5 on Friday and the note2 when it drops. iOS, and android r different but both r very great platforms. They jus cater to different sectors of the electronic world, android more to techies iOS more to the mainstream user. Both r great, and highly successful

iPhone users had a reason to look down at early android phones. Until the Evo, there wasn't anything on android that was awesome. Now there are plenty of android phones with better specs and bigger screens. Fortunately we are at a point where it's just about preference now.

I don't hate iPhone users (well, some mouthy ones u could do without. Everyone should be allowed to enjoy their choice of phone. I do despise Apple, however. I don't care how little they improve their phone every year or two. I don't care if they want to make accessories proprietary and charge through the nose for them. I don't care if they keep their system totally closed. I do care that they don't want to allow the rest of us the choice of what phone we want. They take advantage of the flaws in the patent system, and try to eliminate competition. They submit patent for anything and everything they conceptualize, without even actually working on developing it. They copy others, patent it, then sue to ban anyone else who uses it (swipe to unlock). If Apple would just compete, put out the best device you can and let the public decide, then I'd have no problem with them. Their product still wouldn't be for me, but it wouldn't even matter to me.

For some reason the black one looks longer while the white one looks like it has more girth.

lol u dont know which iPhone they are using ryt?

15. No_Nonsense unregistered

Read the post carefully: I know many who've jumped ship from 4s to 5 and this is totally dumb of them. A jump from 4/3gs to 5 would've made sense but it'd have been better if 4s users waited for 5s/6. Simplified for people like you.

I bet you weren't calling the people who switched from a galaxy s2 to the s3 idiots and that phone was only out for maybe 8 months

109. No_Nonsense unregistered

At least where I live the S2 was released in April 2011 and S3 in June 2012 (outside of USA that is). So I fail to see how the period between them was 8 months (it may be 8 months in the US though). And besides I don't know anyone who's shifted from the S2 to S3. They are waiting for the Note 2.

U may not know them but do you think theyre idiots for going from the s2 to the s3

160. No_Nonsense unregistered

Perhaps, the Note 2 is a better upgrade if they can bear with the size. I'd personally waited for the S4 though.

And for those who have moved from 4/3gs and earlier ones and for those who wanted to experience iOS first time or after a break this makes a good choice, not for those who have a 4S.

don't worry about them. worry about yourself

28. No_Nonsense unregistered

Shut up troll. We know you're an Apple fan and are totally brainwashed by them, leaving yourself with no capacity to think outside of Apple and their products and force-feeding your opinions on others. PS: Before asking me to worry about myself, please worry about yourself. I guess after the Apple-itis hit you, you've probably lost your mind and need to get yourself treated. It'd be better of you would spend some of the money that you spend on Apple products to treat yourself in some hospital or asylum for that matter.

Why are u people arguing this way over foolishness? ,what do u get out of this? you are all arguing over devices that makes calls and have features that most of u dont even use with Apple and Samsung making huge profits out of your pockets and laughing at u at the same time that u are making fools of yourselves. At a time when the economy is bad ,jobs are hard to get and people are having a hard time living day to day ,why not spend your money on more meaningful things than making Apple and Samsung more richer while u get poorer.THINK ON THIS.
