Cupertino blown away by demand for Apple iPhone 5
After the first day of pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 5, demand has been so strong that Apple says it was "blown away". Pre-orders, which started the day with shipments expected on September 21st, are now delayed to October 5th for some models. All three variants of the Apple iPhone 5 at all three U.S. carriers holding  pre-orders are sold out of inventory being held for pre-orders except for the 32GB and 64GB models at Sprint.

Apple spokeswoman Nat Kerris said, "Pre-orders for iPhone 5 have been incredible. We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response." For Apple, it is a major turnaround from the introduction last year of the Apple iPhone 4S. Only an incremental update, many had expected a larger display and was stunned that the device had the same old 3.5 inch screen.

It should be interesting to see what the first day sales totals are for the Apple iPhone 5. Last year, 1 million units of the Apple iPhone 4S were reserved on the first day of pre-orders, compared to 600,000 units of the Apple iPhone 4 that were pre-ordered on the first day.

The Apple iPhone 5 will be at Verizon, AT&T and Sprint locations as well as in the Apple Stores starting on September 21st
