Best CCG card games for iOS & Android: Hearthstone, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon TCG, Adventure Time, more!

Love card games? Poker? Blackjack? Baccarat? Bridge? Sure you do!

But these are definitely not the only games you can play with cards. And in the realm of video games and mobile technologies, the term "card game" can be interpreted rather widely. From TCGs & CCGs to casino simulators, those willing to kill off a couple of minutes or hours have a vast selection of titles to pick from.

These are not only trending but actually getting more popular by the minute - popular Polish game developer CD Projekt Red, which is responsible for the mind-bogglingly good Witcher franchise, just recently announced that it will be developing a dedicated gwent game. Gwent, in case you don't know, is a pretty complex card game played in the Witcher universe. Also, we will be getting a CCG based on The Elder Scrolls universe.

Yeah, card games are popular on mobile devices. Here are some of the very best ones around.

Hearthstone

Get it on Android | iOS (free)

It's a must-try for all fans of CCG (collectible card games) and even more so for those who love anything Azeroth-related. You probably know what Hearthstone is all about, but in case you don't, worry not, we've got you: simply put, you engage in card duels with bots or real humans. The goal? Simple, deplete your enemy's 30-point health pool to win the game.

There are nine hero classes (hunter, paladin, mage, warrior, shaman, druid, rogue, etc.) to choose from and quadrillions of different deck combinations. Needless to say, the game is quite easy to learn, but immensely hard to master, as numerous strategies exist for each separate class, not to mention certain playthroughs involve a huge amount of luck.

Hearthstone is a true cross-platform game - regardless of the platform on which you're playing, you may encounter a rival that is using something entirely different. iPhone vs PC gaming rig? Well, be our guest!

Card Wars - Adventure Time

Get it on Android | iOS ($3.99)

Inspired by nothing else but Dungeons & Dragons, the Adventure Time series provides the perfect setting for a card game, and that's exactly what Card Wars - Adventure Time is. In it, you will have to summon various warriors and cast diverse spells with the ultimate goal of besting your opponent's defences, because that's what the cool guys would do!

Of course, you can build your own deck and fine tune it in order to overcome the different opponents you'll need to deal with. Each of your cards can get leveled up acquire new abilities or improve its existing ones.

All in all, fun times for Adventure Time aficionados! If you swear by Finn, Jake, and BMO, then this one's for you!

Pokémon TCG Online

Do you want to be the very best? Like no one ever was?

Sure you do. Our childhood dreams are soon going to be fulfilled as Pokémon GO is just around the corner, but until then, this card game will most probably get you in the mood for some battles. Of course, collecting cards and building a capable deck is the gist of the game, but so are heated duels against AI or human players (you can play with your pals or a random opponent from around the world).

There are a couple of card types in Pokémon TCG Online - Grass, Fire, and Water - with numerous monsters comprising each one. Apart from building decks, you can customize the looks of each card (but not its abilities, though). Also, your avatar's also fully customizable - onward, followers of the great Ash!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generation

Get it on Android | iOS

It's rather pointless to talk about trading card games without mentioning Yu-Gi-Oh, one of the most popular TCG franchises. This is the official Konami game that allows you to get involved in monster duels versus AI or human opponents from all around the globe.

One of the best assets of the game is the vast amount of cards inside - currently, one can find over 6,000 cards, including the most popular and powerful ones, like the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Exodia, the Egyptian God cards, and more.

In case you've missed both the manga and the game itself in the early 2000s (poor you!), fret not - there's a tutorial on board that will help you get familiar with the concept of the game. Oh, and there's also a campaign mode, though you don't get to play as Yugi Muto. Sad!

Order & Chaos Duels

Get it on iOS | Android

Gameloft brought us one of the best World of Warcraft-like games on mobile, but it also showed us all that making adequate and better-than-average card games is also on the menu. Using almost all of the monsters and characters from Order & Chaos Online and then adding some, Order & Chaos Duels is a card game that's definitely not lacking content. Over 300 cards are there up for the taking.

Gameplay-wise, it's a regular collectible card title, in which you have to use clever strategy in order to beat your opponent. As with most card games, apart from regular monsters you also have magic cards that serve different purposes and should be used extensively. Yeah, definitely worth a try, that Order & Chaos Duels game!

Cardstone

Get it on Android | iOS

This neat little game is part card battler and part dungeon crawler, of sorts. Your goal is to explore the depths of a dungeon and live to tell the tale. Yes, it won't be a walk in the park, as numerous foes will try to claim your head as a trophy, figuratively speaking.

It's commendable that you've taken your card deck to aid you in such dire life-threatening situations, though! You will be able to battle whatever you encounter in the dungeon with your numerous cards, skills, and magic spells. A small, non-pretentious, but an extremely fun game!

Upcoming

The Elder Scrolls: Legends

Okay, we know this one's not out yet (it was announced a couple of days ago at E3 2016), but it' definitely deserves a mention. This CCG, based on Bethesda's eponymous intellectual property, will arrive on almost all platforms later this year, including iOS and most probably Android, and will allow us to take part in both single and multiplayer battles. It's said that we should expect various game modes, a rather good story, and lots of cards that will allow extensive deck combinations.

Well, we can't wait for that one!

The Yu-Gi-Oh game for iOS is iPad only. Probably should've mentioned that. There is a iPhone version available (Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM Pocket), but I don't know if its an exact copy of the iPad version or not.
