Apple gets MagSafe-like patent for iOS devices
Ever seen that neat magnetic connector on a Mac? Yup, the same one that conveniently protects you from rolling your precious gadget on the floor after you’ve tripped on the power cord for the nth time. Soon iOS devices might come with a similar one, at least if we are to look at Apple’s newly filed patent for a MagSafe-style connector for mobile devices. The core of the patent boils down to a moving magnetic coupling, which “in one particular embodiment, … may be a power connector as the MagSafe,” the patent states.

The new connector is illustrated to come on the back of an iOS device like the iPad and is positioned at a slight angle. This suggests that pulling out a cord might be easier than with a vertically located connector. Hey, one less reason for accidentally breaking your device after you’ve stumbled over it, isn’t it?
