Apple chooses Disney Animated as the best iPad app for 2013

Apple chose Disney Animated as the best iPad app for 2013 among the nearly 100 000 apps that launched for the tablet throughout the year. The $9.99 app gives cartoon fans an in-depth multimedia experience with the Disney universe.

Disney describes the app as a "premium interactive experience" that showcases the company's 90 years of work in art and technology in "the most comprehensive and unprecedented look at Disney animation to date". The 1.82GB download lets you animate 3D character models, control visual effects simulations, and offers a complete catalog with every scene from every Walt Disney Animation Studios animated feature film in thumbnail form. It also features an unabridged version of the Principles of Animation chapter from The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation, with moving illustrations.

The runner-ups in the “App of the year” lineup are Traktor DJ by Native Instruments and WWF Together by the World Wildlife Fund. The winner in the “Game of the Year” category is Frogmind's side-scroller Badland, followed by XCOM: Enemy Unknown (2K Games) and Impossible Road by Kevin Ng.
