Android 5.0 update hits Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition
Android 5.0 has just been pushed out to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition. This is the stock Android version of the phone, available from the Google Play Store. One selling point of these models is that they are supposed to be early in line for Android updates. It should be pointed out however, that the OS being sent out OTA to the Galaxy S4 GPe is Android 5.0, not the Android 5.0.1 version that some other Google Play editions have received.

Other Google Play edition models that have received the Lollipop update include the Motorola Moto G, the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (M7). All three phones received Android 5.0.1. There is no word why the Galaxy S4 Google Play edition was sent out the older version of the OS.

As far as carrier branded phones are concerned, we are still a few months away from seeing Android 5.0 updates sent out by the mobile operators. HTC has promised that the update would be sent out to its carrier branded HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) models within 90 days after Google turned over the final code to the manufacturer. That means that owners of those two models should start to see the update by early February. A tweet from HTC recently confirmed that everything remains on track timing-wise.

I bought S5 just because I thought that a GPe version will be released and so I will be able to flash stock Android ROM but I had a big disappointment when I heard that it will now happen. Thank you Sammy once again for marking my decision to move to other devices much easier. Next year I'm gonna go for the new HTC flagship.

you should've checked if they had a GPe, the only people who made a GPe this year are HTC. You messed up

Usually GPe's are released after some time the usual flagship gets released and since S4 GPe was released a year before I thought that Samsung will continue the tradition like HTC did with M7 and M8 so it was the logical thing to think then. Either way there are tons of users that where hopping the same thing I did when they bought S5. Oh and yeah...maybe I messed up like you say on this part but it is a 50% fault of Samsung too due to misleading people

*misleading peoples with their previous release of S4 GPe. Either way there are more factors that made my decision easier to move next year to HTC (ex: the laggy touchwiz even on lollipop and the fact that Samsung doesn't want to do a thing about it).

Hows it misleading? They tried an S4 GPe and then decided not to. Thats your fault for assuming that they would release an S5 GPe. Its 100% your fault that you bought an S5 and didnt wait to see if a GPe version was released. Wtf..

I agree 100%. People make dumb mistakes & they feel the need to blame others for it. Samsung never once said that there were plans for an S5 GPE. You can't make the assumption that there is going to be one because the previous version had one.

Is there any way to convert my Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT_I9505) to a GPE device so I can receive Android Lollipop?

You can simply flash a GPE modded ROM for your particular device model and it will be good as the GPE S4.

Why to do that. Wait a little bit and you will have Lollipop. So you will have the feature rich TW.

I don't like TW on the Galaxy S4, I use cyanogenmod, I prefer the clean feel of vanilla android.
