Alleged Asus ZenFone 5 shows its iPhone X-like notch in live picture

Alleged Asus ZenFone 5 shows its iPhone X-like notch in live picture
Asus has already confirmed that its next wave of Android smartphones will be unveiled on February 27 during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 trade fair. At least two devices will be introduced later this month: Asus ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5 Lite.

The standard ZenFone 5 model is expected to feature the same notch that made the iPhone X so popular among other smartphone makers, which are now planning to include the design change into many of their products.

Asus ZenFone 5 allegedly leaked in a live picture that confirms the inclusion of the so-called “lip,” which is supposed to make room for the front camera, earpiece and a few sensors. Just like many other smartphones already available on the market, the ZenFone 5 will pack an 18:9 display.

Android 8.0 Oreo will be on board as well, along with USB Type-C and 3.5mm audio port. On the back, the upcoming ZenFone 5 series handset is likely to feature a dual-camera setup and a fingerprint sensor.

The Asus ZenFone 5 will be available in two variants, including a dual-SIM model. Both will be made out of glass and aluminum materials. We have yet to learn when exactly the new ZenFone 5 smartphones will be available for purchase and how much they will cost, but it won't be long until we get more info on the matter.

Asus Zenfone 4 was too expensive for it's specs and it still is. It nearly costs same as Galaxy A8 (2018). Why would anyone buy an Asus phone when a similar specced Samsung phone costs around the same ?

SD660 phones all cost that. That Vivo with in-screen fps costs more than OP5T

Pathetically unoriginal.

Indeed, I think it should have looked like the first phone with a notch, the Essential PH-1. This way no Apple fan would feel offended and it would also look a lot better.

Oems know their target audience and what they want. These phone will most likely appeal to the Chinese market, where iPhones are highly sought after but many don't have the means to afford them.

When ASUS first came into the smartphone market, I was excited because of what they did in the computer market. However, I have got to say that for me personally ASUS just produces what looks like cheap and underwhelming smartphones. There’s nothing here that screams originality or quality. It just looks like a cheap Chinese copy of an iPhone.

I agree, specially after releasing some of the most beautiful designs such as the PadFone Infinity 2... But hey, maybe they make more money out of these cheap lookalikes...

RIght.. Back then they make the best value laptop in $300-$700 price range, and their first smartphone line-up also the a great value (they use intel's SOC), and after that they just stuck with old design, and overpriced flagship that's come to market 6 months after being announced :-|

Take it easy. It cold be just another iRumor , to make the mistake with the fugly notch, looks like a 'trend'. LOL How many such ''rumors'' we read so far about, that Samsung would ditch the audio jack, or that will use the Force Touch BS? Remember?

It looks like a clone of iPhone X. Looks nice but Asus should have went with a original design..

To top it off, it has huge bezels on the bottom. All they had to do was not add those ears to create that notch and they would have a nice looking symmetrical phone.

Oh dear, the curves are too sharp, looks too angular, like a 12 year old PC gamer designed it.

Why on earth the manufacturers think that a "notch" it's a good idea or something desirable for consumers, why some Android makers try to copy all bad Apple solutions, notch, no audio jack, no sd support, etc...

in Asia, iPhone look alikes sell like hot chocolate. Asians love it.

Overgeneralization. Chinese =/= all Asians, especially considering Korea and Japan are big consumers in the Asian smartphone market

iPhone also popular in S.Korea and Japan. But well, your point still correct since iPhone isn't "iPhone look alikes".

Can someone answer why some companies copy others instead of carving their own path? And I mean hard copy.

Who's the greater fool? The fool or the fool that follows the fool? Apple made a bad design decision to be different and implemented it badly. Just because other manufactuers copy it, it doesn't make it look any better.
