Samsung Unpacked event confirmed for February 24 at MWC 2014 - should we wait for a Galaxy S5 announcement?

Samsung just revealed that its next Unpacked press event will take place in Barcelona on February 24. That’s the first day of Mobile World Congress 2014.

The invitation to the event reads “Unpacked 5.” In the past, Samsung has announced new Galaxy smartphones during these events, so it kind of makes sense for us to expect a Galaxy S5 unveiling at the next Unpacked gathering, doesn’t it?

Last we heard, the new Galaxy S5 was supposed to come with a 5.2-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560) display, Android 4.4 KitKat, 16MP rear camera, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB / 64GB / 128GB of storage space. It's said that Samsung would launch two S5 variants (but that isn't a surprise): one featuring a 64-bit octa-core 2GHz Exynos 6 processor, and another one powered by a quad-core 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU.

Sure enough, we might see other new Samsung products in Barcelona, and not the Galaxy S5 - perhaps a Windows Phone handset, or new tablets with AMOLED displays. Whatever it is, we're impatiently waiting to find out what Samsung has prepared for us!

I kind of hope that they raise the 2 megapixels front camera. 5 megapixels would be nice, but I have my doubts.

SMH... Hopefully they either start using higher grade polycarbonate, or aluminum..
An aluminum GS5 would be awesome.

A aluminum Note 4 with a 6" screen would be killer to.

Well for me I think a 6" phone is just too much. 5.7" is my sweet spot. Anything above that is simple too huge for me.

You said 5.5 is enough when note 2 release then why 5.7

I'm using the 6" 1520 right now.. Trust me the first day you get it, after a hour of use, you forget how big it is.. Like me you'll be saying "6.5 is as big as I can go""
......................
But, it has to end somewhere..

Take a look at the pic. That is faux leather in the background. Sorry, but the S5 will have a pleather back like the Note. I think Sammy will hold the metal version in its back pocket just in case sales are not where they want them to be. They only want to spend money if they have to.

Making something that is highly portable & mobile out of glass is BEYOND stupid, it's a phone, not a purse, stop being so damn obsessed with fashion.

I know more about how fragile glass is than appearently Apple and their stupid designers, and Apple zombies.
News flash, glass breaks.

Since your one of those types who are rude on the internet, then I will be rude right back. Glass breaks.
And it's technology people, not a purse, I can give a crap about fashion, I'm not a female, or gay. A smartphone isn't about fashion, it's about function.

Well if they learnt from the note 3 then I guess the s5 won't be a disappointment. Loving my note 3 to the max. With kitkat everything just goes to a different level.

The press invite says "Episode 1", so very possibly there will be additional "episodes". So not necessarily will the *S5* be announced on this date.

If you're familiar with samsung events..you will find that they always announce S phones in episode ! and note in episode 2....
UNPACKED in press invite makes me think it is S5 for sure...

Any new phone is no good if you can't get data. Sorry to say, but I am a Sprint customer. I am using an EVO 4G on Wimax in Fresno, CA. My USB is busted, but changing batteries is no problem.
