Samsung Galaxy Note 4 may feature three-sided display
Samsung is actively exploring the possibility of using a three-sided display in its Galaxy Note 4 flagship. The next-generation Galaxy Note phablet is planned for the second half of the year, and will be a high-end device, according to Samsung’s own VP of mobile Lee Young Hee.

What is a three-sided display? The term is usually used when speaking about Samsung’s Youm flexible screen technology. Its Galaxy Note 4 implementation is said to allow reading messages at an angle, and we’ve been seeing prototypes of such a screen that folds at the edges for years. Samsung showed a prototype at last year’s CES, and it might finally be able to implement the technology. We have embedded a video of that demonstration, and that’s exactly the kind of technology and functionality we expect to see in such a Galaxy Note 4.

“We are targeting consumers who want more professional use and tend to be willing to pay more for handsets,” Lee added when speaking about the next-generation Note phablet.

If this mysterious three-sided display that Samsung is actively pursuing is indeed of the Youm family, this would also mean that it’s made of plastic and unbreakable. This alone is a huge step forward as dropping your phone and shattering its display could be a costly exercise. We’re interested to hear your thoughts on this - are you excited about a three-sided display ending up on the next Galaxy Note?

Not necessary, they could just add a mini display on the back if they wanted to but this is a more efficient way. At the worse case this is basically the coolest back led light ever or they could play around with touch screen buttons on the side. Maybe for not necessary physical buttons like the volume rocker and camera buttons the power and stand by button should remain physical forever though.

Yes this is necessary...Why?

Because we need new & different. How cool would it be to have an epic phone that can do that?!? Also this might be something that will change mobile phones & become something standard across the board.

Samsung is doing it right & that is why they are the world's #1.

Kudos to Samsung...

+1

Who and why would users want cheap flexible display....? Another cheap theory. For God dam once, try to be like Sony providing better materials: DragonTrail. Sony is pushing quality. Why not use DragonTrail?

Look how Samsung have turned out to be. The Note3 S4 came with Snapdragon and Exynos for non Lte country, everyone was hoping for Exynos Cpu, so it was costing Samsung an extra$15+ dollars to use Qualcomms Lte, they said to them self: it is costing us$50+ dollars to equip with Exynos+Lte, so they started to use Snapdragon. I much prefer the Exynos over Snapdragon.

I would rather have android updates sooner and included in models less than 3 years old , but the little notice on the side of the case is rather unique and could be useful. Wouldn't it be distracting to you in a meeting ?

My only beef with the Note 2 is the screen: I broke it twice at the cost of $450 for repair. It slips off your hand very easily. The whole screen assembly had to replaced every time. No simple fix. I welcome a screen that doesn't brake.
