New images of Oppo R7 surface showing off thin, all-metal design

More images of the Oppo R7 have appeared, and the device is now said to be thinner than the 4.85mm measured by its predecessor, the Oppo R5. That would put the Oppo R7 in the running for the title of the world's thinnest smartphone. While earlier images showed what appeared to be a bezel-less design, that no longer seems to be the case. Still, the border around the screen remains razor thin. Oppo is said to be employing an all-metal design for the R7.

Speaking of the Oppo R5, the manufacturer is turning to a more rounded design for the corners on the new model as opposed to the squared off corners of the R5. So far, we haven't seen much in the way of specs although it is believed that the 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6795 is under the hood. This is the same chip that powers the HTC One M9 Plus. In addition, there is speculation that a 20.7MP camera will adorn the back of the phone.

Can the Oppo R7 become the world's thinnest smartphone? At one time, the Oppo R5 owned the title until the vivo X5 Max and its 4.75mm thickness (or should we say thinness?) stole the crown away. Oppo would no doubt like to regain that designation as it comes with plenty of promotional opportunities for the manufacturer.
