Casting an Android screen to your PC is a breeze in Windows 10 Anniversary Update

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which is supposed to begin rolling out on August 2, will make casting the screen of your Android device to your PC a lot easier. The update has already been pushed to members of the Windows Insider program, who have been sharing tidbits and info with great excitement over the last couple of weeks.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update introduces a new native app, called Connect, that allows Android and Windows 10 Mobile to easily cast their mobile screens to their desktop PCs. The procedure is relatively simple and goes as follows for Android users:

  1. Open the notifications center on your Android phone
  2. Tap on the “Cast screen” icon
  3. Select “More Settings”
  4. Open the Connect app on your PC
  5. Wait for your Android phone to detect your PC
  6. Once the name of your PC shows up on the list, tap on it to initiate the connection
  7. Your Android screen should show up on your desktop in a new window

If you are a Windows 10 Mobile user, here is what you should do:

  1. Pull down the Action Center panel
  2. Expand Quick Actions and tap on “Connect”
  3. You should see the name of your PC
  4. Tap on it and your mobile device will begin casting to your desktop

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will begin rolling out for non-Windows Insiders on August 2 and will add a slew of cool new features to the OS, such as extension support for Microsoft Edge, various UI tweaks, Bash shell support, and, much to the chagrin of many, always-on Cortana Are you excited for the Anniversary Update?
