ARR! Pirates of the Caribbean version of Samsung Galaxy S8 is coming

Over the weekend, we were surprised to hear that Paul McCartney will have a role in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales movie. What we're not surprised about is the upcoming launch of a version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 that ties into the theatrical release of the film. A special case engraved with the movie's logo, and containing a skull, is added to the back of the handset.

Features related to the movie are added to the UI once the special case is attached to the phone. This is done using the special NFC chip embedded in the case. The Pirates of the Caribbean special edition of the Galaxy S8 comes in a treasure chest with a gold ring, and other movie themed accessories. This version of Sammy's new flagship phone will be unveiled in China, and Samsung has not said where else it might end up.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Galaxy S8 model will cost $44 more than the price of the regular version of the phone. It is expected to be launched next month.
