Samsung might be keeping the Galaxy S24+ after all

The weeks leading up to a major Android smartphone launch are oftentimes strange. While we are still waiting for the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup, which will take place on February 1st with reservations already live, some people are already talking about next year’s models, and the Galaxy S24+ in particular.
Today, reports pointing to the possible cancellation of the “Plus” version of Samsung's flagship device surfaced. According to the source, the relatively poor commercial performance of the Galaxy S22+ is one of the reasons for the decision.
Indeed, “plus” smartphones do look a little bit cursed (case in point - the iPhone 14 Plus). However, it is still very early to say whether Samsung will be ditching the Galaxy S24+ altogether. One prominent tech tipster seems to think that the leak about the latter’s cancellation is entirely fake.
According to Roland Quandt the article by the Elec that claims that Samsung will be launching only two Galaxy S24 models in 2024 is “just wrong”. In a tweet, he asserts that “There's plenty of proof they all [S24, S24+, S24 Ultra] exist”.
Indeed, the current formula seems to successfully cater to the needs of a wide range of consumers. There is the rather compact vanilla version, a mid-tier plus-sized model, and an ultra-premium phablet (which de facto replaces the Note series).
The Plus is a necessary middle ground between two extremes, packing a bigger screen (which is the norm in the Android world) without all of the high-end features and the stylus. Neither the vanilla version, nor the Ultra are capable of effectively replacing the Plus, not least because of the widely different price points.
For the time being, it is still too early to say whether the Galaxy S24+ will or will not materialize. Perhaps Samsung would first want to see how the Galaxy S23+ fares, before making any radical decision. After all, this is a question for another year.
