We are putting the successor of the phone that arguably started the bezel-less talk back in 2016, Xiaomi Mi Mix, through its review paces, and finding great improvements in all areas like design, interface speed or camera quality, but battery life won't be one of those, it seems. Unlike the huge 4400 mAh battery pack of its predecessor, the Mi Mix 2 comes with a much smaller 3400 mAh battery, and it showed when we ran it through our grueling endurance benchmark. Despite having a 10nm Snapdragon 835 processor, and a 1080p, instead of QHD resolution display, the Mi Mix 2 lasted about 9 hours of screen-on time.

Battery life(hours)Higher is better
Xiaomi Mi MIX 29h 5 min(Good)
Apple iPhone 88h 37 min(Good)
Apple iPhone 8 Plus10h 35 min(Excellent)
Samsung Galaxy S88h 22 min(Average)
LG G66h 9 min(Poor)
LG V105h 51 min(Poor)
Samsung Galaxy Note87h 50 min(Average)
LG V309h 34 min(Good)
HTC U119h 3 min(Good)
Google Pixel7h 45 min(Average)

While certainly a respectable result, we expected a bit more from this combo. The LG V30, for instance, which is also powered by Snapdragon 835, and has a smaller, 3300 mAh battery but comes with a high-res 1440p display, just scored higher, at 9 hours and 34 minutes. Hence, the current "stable" version of the MIUI interface might have something to do with the average performance of the Mi Mix 2 when it comes to battery life, as users have been reporting unoptimized power draw compared to he MIUI 9 beta that has been around since August.

In any case, 9 hours of screen-on time in our test easily translate to a day and a half of real-world usage, so no reason to panic if you are already eyeing the Mi Mix 2 and its excellent screen-to-body ratio. Moreover, charging time from zero to hero is the wonderfully short 88 minutes, which puts many to shame.
