Windows Phone 8.1 coming to HTC 8X late next month
A tweet sent out by HTC reveals that the Windows Phone 8.1 update is being sent out to owners of the HTC 8X, starting late next month. The update brings the Action Center for notifications, the Swype-esque Word Flow typing system, and the personal assistant Cortana to the handset. A number of Nokia Lumia models have already received all of those goodies with Windows Phone 8.1, and now it is time for HTC's Windows Phone 8 models to be updated.

Last month, we told you that Microsoft had halted the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 Developer Preview for both the HTC 8X and HTC 8S, due to the lack of drivers required for the update. HTC needs to send out the drivers for both models, and will do so with the official consumer update.

So now we know to expect the HTC 8X to receive the update in late October, which should make owners of the phone excited to know that Cortana is coming soon. As for those with the lower spec'd HTC 8S, there still is no date as to when we might see that model updated to Windows Phone 8.1.

And if you're wondering about the HTC One (M8) for Windows, that update is coming...ah, we can't pull the wool over your eyes. That high-end model comes pre-loaded with Windows Phone 8.1 on board..
