Verizon on cusp of releasing its 8-inch tablet?

Last year, Verizon offered its own tablet branded the Ellipsis 7. The 7-inch slate is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and includes 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage. As we told you back in August, Verizon has contracted with Taiwan manufacturer Quanta to produce an 8-inch version of the Ellipsis tablet.

The nation's largest carrier is apparently on the cusp of releasing the device. Some information about the tablet appears on the operator's website, but it is not a complete listing. The page does show that the Verizon Ellipsis 8 will be priced at $249.99. Affix your John Hancock to the dotted line of a two-year contract, and the price suddenly drops $100 to $149.99. You will also be able to purchase the slab using Verizon Edge. For $0 down, and 24 monthly payments of $10.41, the tablet will be yours.
The 8-inch screen keeps the same 1280 x 800 resolution found on the Ellipsis 7, which is too bad because it results in a lower pixel density of 189ppi. A 5000mAh battery powers the unit, and there is a 5MP snapper on board. A quad-core 1.5GHz CPU is under the hood, and the tablet supports 4G LTE connectivity. It would appear that Verizon plans on launching the Ellipsis 8 just in time for the holiday shopping season, so stay tuned.
