Transfer My Data app updated by Nokia to include pictures and text messages from your old phone

If you're getting a new Windows Phone handset and don't want to lose your contacts, Transfer My Data is an app that lets you move over all of the contacts from your old phone to your new Windows Phone 8 model, saving plenty of time and typing. Now, after being updated by Nokia, the app also allows you to move over text messages and pictures. You can check out the matrix that accompanies this article to see which features are available, depending on the OS of the phone you are leaving. Your former device must support the PBAP Bluetooth profile (Phone Book Access Profile) and/or SyncML.

If pictures cannot be transferred using the app, Nokia suggests using SkyDrive. You might want to consider that anyway just to save time. While contacts and text messages don't take that long to transfer, pictures on the other hand, can try your patience. For example, moving over 1,684 pictures from a Nokia 808 PureView showed an estimated transfer time of 462 minutes which is nearly 8 hours!
