THX certification might soon come to smartphones and tablets
When a piece of audio gear – a multimedia receiver, audio amplifier or a home theater speaker system, carries the THX seal of approval, you know that you have something special on your hands. You know that the audio experience you are about to get from it is going to be superior to what a run-of-the-mill boombox can deliver. But does THX certification has its place among the ranks of smartphones and tablets?

Well, apparently, it does. Rick Dean, senior vice president of THX, revealed in an one-on-one briefing with Pocket-lint that the company is to start paying more and more attention to smartphones and tablets from now on. That sure makes sense as people are increasingly getting accustomed to consuming media via their mobile devices – either on their own displays or by hooking them up to a big screen TV.

Through working along with manufacturers, THX is intending to take the multimedia experience a smartphone or a tablet can deliver to the next level. Performance can be improved by optimizing compression methods, tweaking DSP algorithms, and implementing audio restoration techniques, as Mr Dean clarified.

No details were given, however, as to when a THX-certified smartphone or tablet is expected to be announced. Perhaps, until one comes out, a smartphone equipped with Beats headphones will satisfy your cravings for superior audio?
