T-Mobile's ‘free data for life’ tablet plan is no more – for new subscribers

8comments

Way back in 2013, T-Mobile offered the Free Data for Life service for cellular tablet owners. It amounted to a free 200MB of data each month, which sounds rather laughable today, in the age of "unlimited everything" plans. T-Mo has caught up with that and announced it's putting the kibosh on the program for good.

As of May 7, the offer is no longer available for new activations, although anyone who subscribed for Free Data for Life before that will be enjoying their 200 megs until their tablet dies of old age.

In consolation, the carrier would like to let you know that adding an unlimited LTE data line for your tablet costs $20 a month for customers on T-Mobile ONE, the unlimited plan. Given how little 200MB of data can do for you today, we'd say there's nothing here to cry over.
