Surprisingly, Nextbit Robin is getting the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update

Since Nextbit was acquired by Razer early this year, much has happened for those who purchased the only smartphone released by the company, the Robin. First of all, Nextbit community forum had been closed, and a new one was opened on Razer's website.

On the flip side, Nextbit managed to release the promised Android 7.0 Nougat update back in March, something that was a bit of a surprise for Robin users. However, the biggest surprise is that Nextbit continues to support the Robin with timely updates.

Starting this week, Nextbit Robin owners can download the new Android 7.1.1 Nougat update that's been released to the general public. The update was in beta for a couple of weeks, and it's now up for grabs.

Furthermore, Nexbit published the Android 7.1.1 Nougat factory image, so Robin users can manually flash the update whenever they want. The update file weighs in at 560MB and doesn't bring anything new except the improvements added by Google, which means the Robin should offer a near stock experience.

It's also worth pointing out that the update contains the April security patch, which is a bit old than what we would have expected. Would it be unrealistic to hope for an Android O update later this year?
