Sprint may discontinue iPhone 4 on iPhone 5 launch day
What you probably know is that on September 21, the iPhone 5 will become available for purchase at retail stores nationwide. What you don't know, however, is that the iPhone 4 may get discontinued on Sprint on that very same day, according to evidence that surfaced on the web.

That's bad news for any Sprint subscriber who has been thinking of getting it at an unbeatable price. During the unveiling of the iPhone 5, it was announced that the price of the 8GB iPhone 4 will be dropped down to zero on-contract. And who doesn't like free stuff? It was also mentioned in the fine print, however,  (read: the official iPhone 5 press release) that the free iPhone 4 would be available only through "select carriers". Well, looks like Sprint will not be on that list.

Of course, we might not be interpreting the information contained in the leaked document correctly, so there is still a slight chance of the iPhone 4 being on sale with Sprint even after the iPhone 5 launch. Whether that will be the case, however, remains to be seen.

The 4 will be end of life as the iphone 4$ will become available in a cheaper 8gb model. Also on the funny side if the iphone 4 is no longer available then a huge lot of ifans won't get totally confused between the iphone 4,iphone 4s and the iphone 5 and end up getting the wrong iphone, just like the folks in the Jimmy Kimmel video lol

This doesn't necessarily mean it won't be sold, it just means there is not room to display it in some retail locations. Display space is at a premium with all of the different models options, so I would imagine it may be considered a waste to display multiple phones that look identical and no one can tell the difference.

sprint really cant afford to give them away for free. They need to take something from people up front. Happens when your company loses money.

Like all phone companys, Sprint makes their money off the contracts, not the phones. A couple extra hundred bucks from a few sales isn't going to make or break them. Plus if they are the only ones charging when other carriers are free, they will lose sales defeating the purpose.

they dont like giving the phones away for free because when people get the phone for free and pay nothing at point of sale there is a much higher 180 day deactivation percentage. this costs tons of money loss for the main company and hits dealers even harder

Sprint, just like ATT and Verizon, could really care less about giving the phone away for free. They pay out almost $400 in comission for every new contract (that doesnt cancel), $100 does not make much of a difference. Besides, there's always a $350 early termination fee for those who do not fulfill the 2 year commitment. Add activation fee's and proration= retail price of phone recovered.

you can so still get the i4! Buy a 4S and tell the fool it's a 4, they'll never notice the difference! (because they're pretty much the exact same phone lol)

Well unless Sprint has more or less sold out their Iphone 4 inventory, or plan to reconstitute it for Virgin Mobile, I would assume they are still going to sell them. A free Iphone 4 is a hard bargain to pass up for people looking to get a cheap device on contract.

we've been told that we probably are not going to carry the iphone 4 for much longer just due to apple charging us too much for the phones. It's hard to carry a phone that you dont make any money off of in the indirect business.

This entire article is false, it only means that in the Planogram all iPhone 4 signage will be dropped to make room for the 5...they have every intention to sell it for free, and it should easily be the best free device around (especially without a mail in rebate) Its the same damn thing as the 4S, who the hell needs to see what it looks like?

I think the article was to create a stir. I work for Sprint and they wouldve told us this by now.
