Sony: the door to Android Wear is not closed

In an interview posted earlier today, Sony Mobile US president Ravi Nookala mentioned that the company would not use Android Wear for its lineup of wearables because it had invested considerable time and resources in its own smartwatch platform. However, this doesn’t mean Sony is anti-Android Wear.

The company took to Twitter to clarify that “the door is definitely not closed to Android Wear.” But these are “early days” for Google’s new platform, thus, for now, Sony is concentrating on its SmartWatch 2 (pictured above) and SmartBand. So we could still see Sony-made gear using Android Wear, but not in the near future.

Meanwhile,  the first smartwatch based on Android Wear will be released by LG next quarter under the name of LG G Watch. It will be followed by Motorola’s Moto 360 later this year. HTC, Samsung and Asus have also confirmed their commitment to the new platform.

Just like it happened with Android for smartphones and tablets, we’re assuming that most major hardware makers will join the Android Wear bandwagon eventually.

They look alright imo. But I prefer the concept of Android Wear. I guess (and hope) Samsung will release Wear watches, too.

I know right, trolling on Sammy's products is so much fun. That's your opinion right? I think the GEAR 2 looks much better on the WRIST than Sony's Squarewatch 2.

Does your gear 2 look better than moto 360?

It does not. It also does not look better than Sony's lol.

dude! easy there, dont get your trolling panties so high on your brain. its not healthy. i was just saying samsung should drop tizen for androidwear. since similar platform will allow developers to make apps and open up the market for apps on android. rather than confusing the crap out of people by have different markets Also design of smartwatch is really a personal choice so if you dont like some design just go with other company. i never liked the idea of smart watch, i got sony SW2 free with z1 but i sold it without even opening it. but the moto SW looks sort of normal watch so i might be interested. all comes down to its usability.

With Samsung manufacturing capacity they can do both. I would not be surprise if they are one of the first two to come out with Android wear and Tizen wear. Samsung Hater will be left bitter again with non stop wining and bitching. Lol!

All smart watch makers need to shut up and use android wear on their watches.

Speaking of Deathstroke, are you following the Arrow series on FOX? Pretty damn good.

Hell yeah!!!! I am a die hard fan of arrow! Watched every episode to date. Suicide squad was awesome can't wait for birds of prey day after tomorrow. Deathstroke and Deadshot in one episode was just fantastic.

Likewise! I love the show soooo much. Not to mention Felicity Smoke-ing HOT-damn what I'd do to be able to bang her....... !!! Can't wait for Birds of Prey either ^_^

I wanna bang sara (Caity Loitz) just look at her in the scene in suicide squad where she talks to Oliver after he took the envelope from the bratfa. You can see her tight ass for a second. She's so hot and beautiful like the ideal GF.

I know exactly what you're talking about because I noticed the same exact thing hahaha. Sara is pretty damn hot. Tech related: I watch each show on my iPhone connected to my monitor. I use Movie Box from Cydia, but there is also an Android version as well. Pretty amazing app. Newly released movies, quickly updated tv shows right after their air date, high quality. Pretty awesome.

Can you tell which movie box app on android? There are three apps named movie box in google play. Please tell me which one because am tired of the pop ups and ads on project free TV. Thanks in advance

The Illuminati was Bavarian political action group that ceased to exist 226 years ago. Google ain't one, but FYI, Flappy Bird is.

Would have loved to see more DIVERSITY. Don't get me wrong, I love android and everything, but its just gonna be the SAME PHILOSOPHY, SAME APPROACH in the wearables now. This was a change to experience SOMETHING FRESH - opportunity lost.

Better to stick with what they have done.
