Sony Xperia Z4 might be announced in the summer, not at MWC 2015
While we're expecting Sony to announce the Xperia Z4 at MWC 2015 in early March, the company might have different plans regarding its next flagship handset. According to Xperia Blog (usually a reliable source when it comes to all things Sony), there is "a good chance" that the company will not unveil new flagships at Mobile World Congress. Instead, it's said that Sony intends to introduce next-gen flagships sometime in the summer.

It's not the first time we're hearing about this. In December, thanks to a leaked email allegedly sent between Sony execs, it was mentioned that "the Z4 phones" were planned for May / November 2015.

Starting with the original Xperia Z from early 2013, Sony introduced a new flagship once in about 6 months. Thus, we had the Xperia Z1 in late 2013, the Xperia Z2 in early 2014, and the Xperia Z3 in late 2014. A "summer" release for the Xperia Z4 certainly doesn't fit the pattern, but perhaps Sony just isn't ready to introduce its new flagship.

Feature-wise, the Xperia Z4 could offer displays with both Quad HD and 1080p resolutions, an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, and a 21 MP camera with a new Exmor RS IMX230 sensor.

What do you think, is releasing the Xperia Z4 in mid-2015, instead of in the coming months, a good idea?

This summer? That's awesome! There is no point for Sony to release Z4 this early.

Sony is going traditional in approach for their upcoming flagship. Quality over quantity . Japanese style.

Considering the hypothesised problems with the production of the Snapdragon 810 and the fact that new Sony camera sensor is also not ready for prime time until at least after April, it makes sense to delay a bit rather than to rush a compromised release. And the Z3 (and its buyers) will have some room to breathe.

yes once Z4 is launched Z3 buyers will suffocate and have a burning itch to buy the new model even though they don't need it.

The 810 is 100% not right the lg phone is being crapped all over by the 2k s6 protype with 7420 in the geekbench 3 on the net now, pleas Samsung do not use the 810, it's crap you will rule again if you keep to 7420

I might have bought a ZenPhone 2 and iPhone 6s by the time Sony will unveil the Xperia Z4 :\

Zenfone 2 is a better choice in terms of functionality and pricing over iPhone. If you can't wait might as well go for zenfone.

810 chip overheating problems might be giving them second thoughts on doing early release. But then again, there are other reasons. Go Sony, just keep improving your gadgets.

I can definitely wait especially if Sony plans to update it's camera software with a new camera UI that has more manual controls built in such as manual focus and shutter speed. Anyway, enjoying my Z3 rocking the Flow Home launcher.

Ditching 6-month release cycle is good for Sony. Z4 should come out with the best specs and condition. Until that day, I will be enjoying my Z3C :)

Good news for me as a Z1 user. I expect at least 3 day battery life with or without a QHD display, well calibrated display, mature camera software and beastly audio!

I hope Sony changes the design cause we are tired with the existing one....all Sony models look more os less the same......Same thing happens with Samsung models fed up with them too
