Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Z3 Compact to be launched shortly after IFA unveiling?
Wondering when to expect the release of the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact? According to the rules of a raffle being held by Vodafone for its reps, it looks like the two new Sony models will be released not too long after they are unveiled at IFA in Berlin, this September. Follow the bouncing ball. The raffle runs from July 1st through September 30th.

Each rep earns points based on which handset or tablet that he or she sells to a consumer. The rep will earn one point selling a Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. A Vodafone rep earns one and a half points for selling the HTC One (M8), the HTC One mini (M8) and a variety of Sony devices. Among those listed is the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.

Taking a common sense approach, you can't earn a point and a half selling a phone that is not available. Thus, the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact will have to have been released before September 30th. We'd guess that the phone would have to have been released for a couple of weeks to be included in the raffle. With IFA opening on September 5th, we could see the two models unveiled around then, with a quick launch afterward.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm sure these will be available in the US, on T-Mobile, sometime in mid-2016.

Nuh, it'll be on Verizon around mid 2015 when Z5 is about to be announced.

By the time z3 is available in the market sony will launch z4. Then the customers will skip z3 and will wait for z4 but by the time z4 is available you will start teasing z5 and so on. Sony got to make this straight and work on how to market their stuff and to make their phones available worldwide as soon as they launch their products. Otherwise the phones you make will eat up the space in sony warehouses.

Bad idea: I think it will be compared unfairly with the Galaxy Note 4; even though it is a phablet (which I cannot find a distinct contrast b/w that with a smartphone) they both share the same purpose of being a telecommunications device.

You need to realize that it's up to the carriers to seek out phones from the manufacturers. They either go with popular phones that the customers are aware of, or they contract carrier-specific (or exclusive) models to their specs that they think their customers will want. Verizon phones only work on Verizon (except the iPhone, but that's a special case), and only Verizon phones work on Verizon. For Sony to make a Z3 or Z3C (or the rumored Z2), Verizon would have to order a signifcant enough amount of them. Sprint would require their own version too. AT&T and T-Mobile could make do with a international version, although I'm sure they'd carrier lock it, and AT&T would definitely lock the bootloader (WTF is up with the T-Mo Z1A having an unlockable bootloader?), but that would be easy for Sony to do, since it's only software and not different hardware. I'm excited for the Z3 Compact. I've been drooling over a Z1 Compact, but 2 things have stopped me from getting one: the slightly small screen (they could cram a 4.5-4.6" screen in those bezels), and the fact that I'm broke and saving for a OnePlus One. Now I'm not so sure about the O+O (not because of delays, but because of the yellow screens), and I might make do with a Nexus 4 from a co-worker for the time being. But now with the Z3 Compact supposedly comming in September, and with its slightly bigger screen, I'm definitely interested. Same camera, same 2GB RAM, same resolution, and frankly I don't know if the 2.5GHz SD801 is really all that necessary with a 720p screen (I won't complain though), but the .2" extra screen size really makes a difference at that size, especailly if they can keep the phone's overall dimensions the same. Oh, and FRONT FACING SPEAKERS!!! I really don't like where the speaker is placed on the Z1 Compact; if you're playing a game in landscape, you're probably going to be muffling the speaker.
