Sony sends out invites for February 25th MWC event; Xperia XZ4 expected

Sony Xperia XZ4 CAD-based renders

Sony may have canceled the Xperia XZ4 Compact but the Japanese brand still has a number of devices on the way. And with most of these expected to make their debut at MWC 2019, the company has now confirmed (via Xperia Blog) that it will be holding a press conference on February 25.

English invites are yet to be sent out to press but the smartphone manufacturer has seemingly sent out a couple to both Russian and Italian media outlets. Unfortunately, the image shown doesn’t give too much away.

According to rumors, Sony’s biggest announcement at MWC 2019 will be its next flagship. The Xperia XZ4 is expected to debut with a massive 6.5-inch 21:9 display that is coupled with a glass build and a triple-camera setup on the rear, something that will give keep photographers quite a bit of versatility. On the inside, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 is to be expected along with 256GB of storage, a 3,900mAh battery, and Android 9 Pie.

This smartphone may be accompanied by the Xperia L3, Xperia XA3, and Xperia XA3 Ultra which will act as Sony’s latest entry-level and mid-range offerings.

Most idiotic phone of 2019. Its stupid to put this aspect ratio on a phone, don't tell me that its for movies and gaming, cause for gaming you could just get a controller and as for movies then who the hell buys a phone just for the sake of watching movies? Many content is in 4:3 and 16:9, yeah Sony is out of their mind. Stick to 18:9 and 16:9 for phones please.

We already have phones with 19.5:9 ratio. Sony's will be 20.5:9. Not a huge difference. But compared to other they have top and bottom bezels and hence their model is much taller. Also, IMO ever since I have tried 18:9 phones I always felt 21:9 should also come as watching most content on you tube there are still black bars visible.

You know there were already 21:9 phones available. The LG Chocolate from 2011 :D and Oukitel U18.

Then don't buy, or at least used better words to express your opinion. It's not like you don't have a choice to buy other phones

I'm most excited about the xa3 ultra. It could be one of the first phones with an sd660 to make it to the US. I'm sure it'll be over priced but the resale value usually goes down enough over about 6 months to justify the offering... And I don't know why, but I really like the design. Slim, square-ish bezels just make a lot of sense, even over no bezels

Why 21:9? I just got used to 18:9..

21:9 glass but potentially a 18:9 lcd panel... sounds like big chins and foreheads again

I think you should revise a little before commenting a can tell you the bezels are extremely thin on this one

I do not understand the obsession with Bezels/chins. The Bezels help to hold the phone while watching movies or playing games and also they make designing a good cover easier...

Really hoping the 21:9 model is the Premium or Ultra to first gauge interest in the new aspect ratio. Please keep the front facing speakers on the normal XZ4. And add QSync support please.

The XA series has been getting better with each subsequent release. I'm looking forward to the XA3 Ultra with a better camera than my present XA2 Ultra. The CPU, RAM and battery are excellent right now, just need better imaging.

That is true the first set got me interested but the mediatek trew me off. Bought the xa2u and love it although the gpu isn't good enough for heavy games. Hope the 3th set will get a 7 series snapdragon (not sure if those are out yet) And the ultra has to be very big (hopefully around the 7") as the xz4 is supposed to be 6,5"
