Sony Smartwatch 3 now available for preorder through Verizon
We've seen updates start pushing out to the LG G Watch and the Moto 360 that adds the expected functionality for offline music, and the update also brings support for GPS in Android Wear devices, but none of the current set of devices has that hardware. Now, the first Android Wear device with built-in GPS has gone up for preorder through Verizon.

The Sony Smartwatch 3 is the first Android Wear device from Sony, and it isn't just the first Android Wear device with built-in GPS. It is also the first Android Wear device that features an NFC chip for easy pairing with your smartphone. And, it is the first to use a 1.6-inch transflective LCD display, which should make it excellent in bright sunlight. The rest of its specs are very similar to other Android Wear devices, including: 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, waterproof IP68 (one meter of water for 30 minutes), and various movement sensors. No heart rate monitor though.

The Sony Smartwatch 3 will cost $249, and can be preordered through Verizon right now. Google says it will be adding preorders on Google Play soon. The Smarwatch 3 will start shipping on October 30th.

This is the reason that the Sony SW3 is an interesting smartwatch: Bluetooth® 4.0, NFC, *WiFi* WiFi enables all sorts of cool stuff for standalone watch functionality. I can only hope Google stops being Apple/Microsoft and opens up Android Wear, so it is more like Android and less like Google's private spyware OS.

It's also the built in GPS, none of the other Smartwatches have this.

You can install other Roms for the smart watch 2. But you will never be able to put Android Wear on a smartwatch 2. Its running the same processor and rocking the same ram as a pebble. Both of which are using an STM32 processor with an embedded 128kb of ram and they run at 180mhz. All Android Wear devices have 4096 times more ram (512mb) and more storage by a factor of 128 times. You can put it to rest that Android Wear will never run on a Smart watch 2 or pebble.
