See an old Lumia 520 running Android 7.1 Nougat

The Nokia Lumia 520 was a budget Windows Phone 8 device that launched back in 2013 and has since been largely forgotten. The phone was updated to WP 8.1 a year after it launched, but never got the Windows 10 treatment. Who would have thought that in 2016 some crafty programmer will get the latest version of Android running on it? Well, that happened – somebody got Android 7.1 Nougat up and running on a Nokia Lumia 520.

Don't get us wrong, it's not like this is something you'd want to try yourself — this Android build is not stable enough to be a daily driver — but you may nonetheless find it amusing to see the latest of Android running on an old Windows Phone device. We sure did. What's more surprising, however, is how smoothly Android appears to be running on this ancient (by industry standards) 4-incher. Heck, even the multi-window view is there and you can see the guy running two apps side by side on this tiny 480 x 800 screen.

Now imagine if somebody got a stable version of Nougat running on the Lumia 950 or even the 1020! That would be absolutely amazing! Oh well, seems like we'll have to wait until next year to get our hands on a premium Nokia device running Android. Let's just hope they don't disappoint.

Backwards compatibility at its finest. Hope the full Windows 10 on ARM would be just-as flexible as it is on AMD/Intel silicon, that'll open the gateway to dual-booting Android + Windows on awesome hardware like a Note 8.

Look forward to Windows 10 ROM that would run on ARM SOC. Intel really need the competition that AMD has failed to provide.
