Samsung now expects to sell 70 million Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones

Samsung now expects to sell 70 million Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones
Last month, industry watchers predicted that Samsung would sell 50 million Galaxy S6 and S6 edge handsets this year, making the S6 duo the most successful in the history of Galaxy S flagships. Now, Samsung is confident that sales will in fact be greater than that.

According to The Korea Times, a Samsung executive said that the company now expects to sell more than 70 million S6 and S6 edge units. It's not clear if this is Samsung's goal for 2015 alone, but, even if it's not, the company should have a great year thanks to the two new flagship smartphones (which are available to buy around the world since April 10).

The Korea Times further notes that Samsung Vice Chairman and CEO Kwon Oh-hyun declared that the first week of Galaxy S6 sales "looks impressive."

As reported a few days ago, Samsung is surprised by the success that the Galaxy S6 edge is having. This means that the handset (which is $100 more expensive than the regular S6) may be hard to find in the next few weeks, or maybe months, until Samsung manages to manufacture enough units to meet the high demand.

In the last quarter of 2014, Samsung's global smartphone market share dropped to a 3-year low, while Apple took the crown as the world's largest smartphone vendor. This year, Samsung is clearly doing better than in 2014, so it might regain its lost market share. But we'll see what happens when 2015 ends.

Don't all these idiots realize that their purchase is supporting non-removable batteries, microSD, and glass phones that shatter from a simple drop ???
The stupidity of the average person today makes me shake my head.

There are lots of other phones out there which may suit your taste. Majority of the people welcomes the new changes from Samsung....

Yes these same Samsung fanboys hated iPhone for nonremovable battery and no microsd card. Looks like Samsung fanboys are really sheep's.

I never liked or dislike removable batteries. I never diss'd the iPhone for not having one either.

I have diss'd the iPhone for not having mass storage capability because this is a native feature of the hardware that was stoppe dfor no reason.

Not being able to plug in yoru phone that ahs tones of open space and store your personal data is ignorant and stupid and not worth of my money and I could care less who name is on the front/back.

The reason Apple is hit with such criticism is becayse NO OTHER OEM took away mass storage. In fact Windows Phone 7 still had it, the down side you had to attch the phone to your PC and do a registry hack in order for it to turn on, which was also stupid.

Also, because the standard iPhone at 16GB is not enough room and I was forced to buy 32GB because I couldn't add external storage or have mass storage, I was forced to choose another brand. I didn't pick Samsung because I liked them, I picked them because Apple forced me back to another platform due to taking native capabilities of hardware and disabling them for their own financial gain.

How could a person choosing what works best for them, or what they want cause they like the brand, or just the looks be stupidity? If a person wants a BMW, but a Hyundai does the exact same thing for less money, but they can afford the BMW, and have their heart set on it, is that stupidity?

I agree with you, butt it depends.
The reason iFans are stupid is because, they think paying more for a phone that does less and having a phone that cost less but does more is some how ok.

Yes maybe lots of people want simplicity. Fine. I am okay with that. But because I don't and I want a phone that si fully featured even if I don't use them, even if I don't need it, doesn't mean I shouldn't have it.

After all, why should I pay $649 just to get 750p when I can spend and extra $30 and get 1440p?

The point of spending more is you should get more. I consider Apple, Google own brand Nexus and Sony to all be junk for what they cost.

Everybody has a different value on money. When I pay more money, I expect more period.

"How could a person choosing what works best for them, or what they want cause they like the brand, or just the looks be stupidity?"

Because the person who says that is actually the stupid one. They are sad because there favorite may not be top dog. Well when your favorite was top dog, the company who made it could have stayed top dog if they didn't sit on their @$$ and let themselves get beat in their own game.

However, having said that you also have to except this fact and even if you don't, doesn't make it any less fact. Not all buyers choose phones based on it being the best option for them. Many people simply don't have the knowledge of understanding to make an educated buying decision, so they simply buy whatever else people are buying and this is true for electronics specifically and especially smartphones. Many people just do what they are told. Those people are stupid and here is why. We live in where most technical terms are explained in 6th grade English and most people if they took the time to read could make an educated decision. However most don't and thus the are purposely stupid.

When it comes to what's best there are to definitions. Theer are thinsg that are simply best for you, then there are thinsg that are simply the best in their category and are such even if you like hem or not. Right now the S6 and S6 Edge are the "best" phones on the market right now. But I am not haying everyone should go buy one, I am just saying they are the best money can buy. If you don't buy it, cool; I'm ok with that. But if you don't buy it, don't bash it because you don't like it.

Oh and my "yous" are general yous, not you specifically :-)

Samsung users and APple users are quite different. See, Apple fans put down phones that have such features, while Samsung fams put down phones that don't.

But here is why what you said is stupid, unlike APple fanatics, people who buy Samsung phones aren't fans. They simply bought what was best for them, what was suggested by the carriers or friend, much like many fans do.

But, since the Galaxy S series has sold 50M+ phones per year since the GS3, I'd say batteries and expandable storage wasn't a hit or miss.

It's on us nerds, like me and you who care to a point. For me, I have my Note 4. I did pre-order a 128GB S6 Edge in Gold that I am still awaiting. The reason I will never miss removable batteries is simple, I never had a reason to remove them.

Sdcard support? The support isn't gone, it si simply less convenient. It was nice to have the internal slot, but I can still use an adapter if I need it and plug it right into the phone. They have ones that are so small, that they are almost the side of the sdcard itself.

I was never against any phone that didn't have sdcards support, I was simply forced away from the iPhone because I needed a way to have access to my files and store them on one device without needing some convoluted method. With the iPhone is I wanted to store my files, I needed to install some wifi application hat stored file sin a directory and the only access was with that app only. STUPID.

I needed mass storage. I check and played with several Android devices and I settled with Samsung because they made the best option for me. I could care less what you think.

Hwoever, Samsung people know what they are buying. They don't buy what is popular. iPhone is just popular because of marketing hype. I have NEVER heard a Samsung buyers say they were buying a phone because it matched their shoes, or purse or their favorite blouse, but I have heard it said of iPhone buyers.

Battery is one thing, but you can easily use wireless charging to top off your S6 since it supports all the standards. Now for the micro SD slot in a smart phone, that really isn't needed any more. Especially since there is so many alternatives. The best is the tiny portable WiFi storage devices. Like the Sandisk connects. The device even allows you to change micro SD cards. The best part is you can just leave it always attached to your key chain. You never have to plug it into anything (only to charge). You can copy files, documents, movies, music, and more to these portable WiFi storage devices. They even support multiple platforms and multiple connections simultaneously. So NOT having a micro SD slot doesn't really matter.

The iPhone 6 is not more durable than the S6, not even by a long shot. The iPhone has cheap glass on the front, not Gorilla Glass and it breaks very easy.

and the stupidity of people like you still trying to get a slide out keyboard back in 2015 thats like trying to bring back crt tv's
not many people if any had or kept an extra battery with them on them or at work or home. hence wireless charging easier,
micro sd no one in the world gives a a crap since most computers now dont have sd slot so sd cards sales have hit the back burner, just really old people like qwerty slider think people around the world care about the card or battery and again the active will have the bigger replaceable battery and sd card and be water resistant so please shut up and move on already the world does not care what you think, i like sd cards and bigger battery but oh well,
but i did say samsung would sell 70 million of the phones but if they did the marvel avengers models that would have put them past 100 million.

LOL, the only laptops that don't have a SD car reader are gimped Macbooks and selected el-cheapo Chromebooks. In otherwords 99% of the Laptops sold have a SD card slot.

It's the standard, arguing otherwise is just being an apologist. Perhaps you may prefer not to have it (god knows why), but don't preach it.

mixed fish you're swimming in the wrong pond, just like freshwater and saltwater fish don't swim together the future is in usb type c its faster smaller and can handle more sd cards take up to much room even micro sd you already have a nano or micro sim card in phones to put sd then you have to have the other side and software to run it, most people love sd card but for tech its no longer the big thing. think cars and steel then softer metal and fiberglass and other materials the world of tech is always changing. move with the current or get out of the water. tech companies are not salmon and choose to go with the flow not against it.
sorry for all the water and fish lingo.
