Samsung Galaxy S8's camera tipped to include Sony sensor that's not yet available

It might be true that we know almost everything there is to know about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship, although few details about the phone's rear-facing camera leaked online. Of course, we know the smartphone will pack a 12-megapixel single-lens shooter, but that's about it.

Well, it looks like new information about the Galaxy S8 has just surfaced, but it's just a small piece of the puzzle. A new report claims Samsung's flagship will feature a Sony IMX333 sensor for the rear-facing camera.

This particular sensor hasn't even been introduced yet, and none of Sony's Xperia phones benefit from its traits. Nothing else has been revealed except for the brand and model of the sensor, so we can't really discuss it.

We're pretty sure though that Samsung will want to upgrade the performance and quality of the camera on its Galaxy S flagships, just like it did with the previous models. The real question is how good the Galaxy S8's camera will be in comparison with the predecessor's.

Is he/she of Korean decent? Might this individual also hate other Asians for some unspecified reason?

Until the 960fps rumor came out I was inclined to believe the S8 would have the S7's IMX260. 12MP 1.4um on both.

I think they debunked this at anandtech as they said it's the same camera as last year's model but with better image processing software. The front facing camera is new though.

It's not interesting at all really. Samsung and Apple always get exclusive sensors which no other company can use.

You missed the point entirely. It's not about being exclusive. It's about the new sensor and that is interesting. The S8 is also supposed to have laser auto-focus as well.

I don't believe the laser autofocus bit. But yeah, a new sensor was pretty much confirmed along with the 960 fps video a week ago.

Every Samsung phone has had a better camera overall vs a previous model. The 12MP sensor on the S7's, aren't as sharp as the 16M sensor on the S6, but it still crisp and clean and vivid and ow light was much more important. Also being able to focus in an instant is a welcome thing.

The S7 was more of a side-step than a better overall camera compared to S6. It compromised daylight performance for low light performance. The details S6 produces are unmatched till this date. That camera was insanely good.

The GS6 was a legend like the GS2. Which makes it even more of a travesty that it somehow lost phone of the year to a rehashed iphone 6 according to phonearena and the verge. At least it won at other publications.

Yeah, and given android flagships this year, this is actually a good news. G6 came entirely with last year's hardware(and 3 year old camera sensor).

Not exactly 3 year old. IMX258 is a late 2015 model, although I do admit it is at heart the same as the 2013 IMX135.

Is this sonys new 3 layer stacked sensor.....its rumoured to be able to shoot 1000fps and has built in layered DRAM to handle the high speed framerate, reduce noise and jello effects....not much info regarding night/low light performance tho
