Samsung Galaxy S6 in-depth hands-on video preview: design, display, new TouchWiz, camera and more

Samsung’s ‘next big thing’, the Galaxy S6, arrived with a splash at MWC 2015, and after all the initial buzz, we finally got a chance to spend a bit more time with it and explore all of its features in depth.

This Samsung Galaxy S6 in-depth hands-on video series is a preview of all the different aspects of the S6: the design, the display, the new TouchWiz interface, the camera, and system chip. Here is what we look at in the different section in videos right below.

In part 1, we focus on the design, the materials, including Gorilla Glass 4 that is used on both the front and back of the S6, as well as the look and feel of the buttons.

In part 2, we take a look at the 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen of the Galaxy S6 and its super detailed 1440 x 2560-pixel (Quad HD) resolution.

In part 3, we focus on the new and sleeker TouchWiz user design on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. We take a look at the new lockscreen, notification dropdown, dialer, messenger, settings, S Health app and more.

In part 4, we focus on the cameras: there is a 16-megapixel OIS main camera with f/1.9 aperture, and a 5-megapixel selfie cam. We also walk you through the camera apps.

In part 5, we take a look at the system chip, CPU, RAM, internal storage, and more.

With this quick guide in mind, take a look at the Galaxy S6 in-depth hand-on videos right below.

After watching the camera video I'm left with one question. Can the frontcamera record QHD?

qhd requires at least 8 megapixel camera.

UHD (3840x2160) requires 8.3MP QHD (2560x1440) requires 3.7MP. Don't confuse those two.

it kinda resembles iphone 6 esp when you are looking at the bottom part, but this phone is actually a mash-up of note 2, s4 and xperia so what are the isheeps bitching abt the looks of this phone?

The fact that it's Samsung.

Funny thing is I just got my hands on an iPhone 6plus today and I can't help but wonder, this is just an upgraded note 2 with aluminum casing. That s6 design is a complete improvement of samsungs own design language. It's bottom design that makes people claim it looks like an iPhone. Either ways, it still looks more sophisticated than an iPhone to me. I'm trading my iPhone wen it launches. I'm supporting a company that is listening to critics and improving. Not one that does same thing over and over again because people love them too much to criticize them when necessary.

What i don't like is the glass on the back. I mean whats the point of that.....the glass will have fingerprints every time we would use the phone and afterwards cleaning it every time (same as Nexus 4). Should have had a metal finish like HTC M9 or the Iphone

It shouldn't have to come to this though....touchwiz looks outdated because of those god damn icons. it was a half arsed revamp of Touchwiz by samsung.

Agreed, touchwiz is a half polished turd. Video 3 'there's still a few lags here and there'. I have a Tab Pro 8.4 which is utterly ruined by touchwiz.

Your not understanding, they have presented this phone as new from the ground up. a total revamp including touchwiz, they had a chance to show off the beautiful design of this phone accompanied with a complete refresh of its software in both functionality and aesthetics...they went half arsed on the latter.

yes. but you can just change the theme if you dont like it as well. its the consumers choice in what they want to change in their phone with the new themes option.

I don't care about the size of the display or the resolution. This is all common, so is the fact that AMOLED has a wide color gamut. We need real scientific answers... Real in depth coverage should tell us if the QHD AMOLED displays on the S6 have been improved over the QHD displays in the S5 LTE-A and Note 4. I'd like to know if these second generation QHD displays are brighter, more energy efficient and possibly even more color accurate. Also, is that 600 nits of proclaimed brightness with auto brightness settings or manual brightness maximum settings? Until we know all this, we shouldn't be talking about the display.
