Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to use three-sided YOUM display

Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to use three-sided YOUM display
Just the other day, Samsung senior vice president Yoon Han-kil said that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 would contain a new form factor. We might have some idea of what to expect, after a new round of speculation involving the next iteration of Samsung's phablet. According to a rumor out of Korea, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will come to market with a flexible "Youm" display. And we're not talking about flexible like the Samsung Galaxy Round, either. We are expecting a screen that can bend. Maybe it won't be able to have (with apologies to Adam Levine) moves like Gumby, but it appears that it will take screen flexibility to a new level.

The other new feature of the screen might turn out to be even more exciting. According to this rumor, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will feature a three-sided display. This rumor dates back to January, when we first told you that Sammy's next phablet would offer such a thing. The very next month, we once again passed along a rumor about a "rolled edge" display on the Galaxy Note 4, similar to a three-sided display (the more interesting part of that report was talk of a foldable Galaxy Note 5 for 2015).

Samsung has filed a patent application for a wraparound screen, which follows the same concepts as the three-sided display. It could allow for the use of virtual buttons and allow users to more easily tab through files or pictures sorted alphabetically or by year.

It all raises the excitement level for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The phablet, which carries a lot of expectations this year, now carries much more.

Thanks for the tip!

I believe that Apple will introduce a very good Smart Watch and it seems that they have finally figured out that the days of small screens are over. That said I believe that the Note 4 will be a spectacular handset. Perhaps a six inch screen, improved display, 4 gigs, tizen platform, three sided display, and a flex design. Samsung is well aware of Apples precarious position and there not about to let that slip. I believe they will pull out all the stops with The Note 4 and introduce a truly incredible piece of innovation while Apple is trying to catch up. It's going to be an interesting year.

I saw this concept more than once... fake rumors. Also, this design does not protect the display, in case of falling. It would brake (or got damaged, if it was flexible) in the first kiss in the ground.

That will be useful in getting Apple of their backs witht he swipe a screen to unlock as this would do so much more, swipe the side to unlock, call , answer, reject clear, clear reminders check appointments, weather etc.... So what will they call the display on the spine / side of the phone....mmm I can feel the need for new terminology - displ-ine or diside (this side) ?

I doubt the Wacom digitizer layer will work with this type of screen.

Decided not to follow any Samsung rumors after the GS5 but I guess an executive said it.

Samsung rumors are getting almost as bad as the Apple rumors.

sooo, maybe we could get a flexible screen - 7-9 inches when unfolded, and normal size folded...lol...yeah, that would be crazy,,,

Interesting, but how would this work with a case? Something like an Otterbox would be out of the question, and even a flip cover would be odd.

perhaps a top-down flip case? but i really wonder with the screen being like this, what would it mean for durability

Have yet to see what does it have to offer. If it's a failure, I'm definitely moving to Oppo or may be OnePlus

No, just no. Just keep it a normal shape that we're used to, not some kind of rounded curvy sided weird-looking shape.

Right now Samsung phones look more conservative than Sony though.

Executives at YOUM has been using this phone for 2 years now... Now they finally release it to the consumers,...Why the delay Sammy? I'm waiting for that folding Phablet from Youm. But I'll probably but this one until then.

for people who hold the phone on the sides...this will put considerable strain on the systems components having to constantly read/ignore the touch.

feels like the side screen will get sketch easier and faster cause i don't think any screen protector can stick on such angle...

Im not going to make any speculations about the Note 4 until I see it in person. I want to think that it will be better than the Note 3, but I get the feeling that there will be a slight design change to it..........therefore I will get the Note when Im ready to upgrade because its the safer bet

Ugly!! Even more uglier than S5. Samsung has neva brought any new design. Its wandering all around its ugly and cheap designs.

Love my juggernote 3, i'm not even think to change my device so soon to any flagship phone that just been released like Z2 & M8. It's not like they are ugly or not good but once you using large screen device you'll never go back. Hope the next Note 4 has better design, specs, features with the same or even larger display with smaller body it'll be sexy. Oh and don't forget the S-Pen...

LOL...that Coolpad phone is humongous lol, I wonder how you can use it on daily basis for a 7 inch phablet, must be looking weird to have that on your ear.

Talking about once you use a big screen you ain't going back lol. I have been a blackberry user since 2010 and currently using the Q10 which I love and typing with and I have used Samsung's flagship from the GT9000, 9100 9300 and ended with the N7100 and that while the only acted as a backup phone cos I was still using the bold 9900. Am glad I disposed all those crappy Samsung phones before I got stuck with them forever. The most annoying part of the N7100 i.e The Note 2 was it's limited 16 web pages with all the hardware humming inside it. All this phones I bought internationally unlocked without no carrier branding

Opening 16 web page at once? and talking about crappy samsung phone? Seriously? The crashberry like many times slower and crashes very often i need to reset my 9900 daily and poor battery life and the ridiculous price tag oh please... I won't even touch Bb 10 os enough is enough. I'm Indonesian i'm using bb because all my friend using it and now we have bbm on android and iOS so bye bye blackberry.

I am 99.99% positive that this will not happen. It will be the same old design with maybe different back cover.
