PopKey, the GIF keyboard, is now in the Apple App Store
Last month, we told you about PopKey for iOS. This is the third party keyboard that uses GIFs instead of words, to communicate your message. At the time we brought PopKey to your attention, it had yet to be listed in the Apple App Store. But today's listing means that the app is no more than a click away from being installed on your iOS device.

To refresh your memory, the free app replaces letters on your keyboard, with GIFs that you can use to illustrate what you're trying to say. The app also comes with thousands of animated GIFs that you can use in lieu of words. And you can even create your own images to use.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. PopKey shows that this is true. Who wants to read "LOL" when they could see the Joker guffawing on their screen. Because iOS 8 is the first version of Apple's mobile operating system that supports third party keyboards, you need your iDevice to be running iOS 8 or higher. There is still no word on whether we will see a version of PopKey for Android or Windows Phone.

This is one of the things I miss when I switched to Android :( I believe hangouts supports animated gifs but not everyone uses hangouts. imessage > all

Hangouts is the default messaging app now. Either way, iOS or Android, this app is pretty lame. It's something 11 year olds would use.

Exactly my point... No one is goin to use this...this is not practical at all.... I would type lol rather some joker laughing in the device.... I'm not saying this because it is not available in android..but because this utter nonsense...

11 year olds or not, I'm sure some Android users would find using an application like this fun/funny... even if it is impractical.

Gotta disagree with that last part, AND not just because it from Apple because Hangouts had a ways to go too. Handset and Go SMS are better than both. If someone could combine iMessage, Hangouts, Whatsapp and Go SMS ... That would be perfection.

I don't think it was first. I had "gif keyboard" downloaded and was using it for over a week before Popkey was available.
