Pokemon GO celebrates one year anniversary with special Pikachu, limited time items

Developer Niantic kicked off celebrations of Pokemon GO's one year anniversary a few weeks ago with a series of in-game events that will give players the chance to win limited time items and hunt for special Pokemon.

As some of you might be aware of, Pokemon GO was launched last year in July, and since then, players have caught more than 125 billion Pokemon. Today, the developers announced a special event that will run from July 6 at 1:00 PM PDT to July 24 at 1:00 PM PDT.

During the event, players will be able to catch a special Pikachu wearing Ash's famous hat from the Pokemon animated series. Moreover, Pokemon players can now stock up for Raid Battles and the events that will follow after this one with the special limited-time Anniversary Box.

The new Anniversary Box contains Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls, as well as Raid Passes at a discount in the in-game shop. According to Niantic, more in-game events could be announced in the coming weeks.

Also, Niantic promises to reveal more information for those who plan to attend the Pokemon GO Fest Chicago this July, events hosted at select Unibail-Rodamco locations this August and September in Europe, as well as Pokemon events at the Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama, Japan, this August.

you'll be behind on Gen 2 and he new raid gyms, but that's it. If anything you missed some useful events that helped gather hard to find mons like Chansey, Dratini, and Magikarp

The gyms got better and easier to get gold from them but other than that it's business as usual.

The only issue I have with the gym update is limited perks for longevity. I just got my Ursaring back after 4 days in a gym and got the single day cap of 50 coins. It wasn't in a very local gym so I couldn't even benefit from the extra items.

That's the only thing that is bugging me about the new gym update. After holding a gym for over a week I get my Alakazam back and only get 50 coins. I'm cool with pokemon only earning 50 coins a day, but I think you should get 50 per day that you hold a gym, otherwise what is the point of trying to hold one for extended periods of time versus just putting something weak in the gym and just holding it for a few hours and earning 20 or 30 coins.

I put my Ursaring in because I figured it would die within a few hours since it was never a big Gym pokemon, but others from my team must've kept re-healing it. I'm just gonna throw oddballs in since it still takes 3 rounds to eliminate a 200CP ratatta.
