Only 30 people line up for iPhone 8 at the Sydney Apple Store

Traditionally, the launch of the latest new iPhone models has hundreds of people lined up in front of the Sydney Apple Store. While the ability to pre-order the handsets online has resulted in smaller gatherings in Sydney, today's launch of the Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus has resulted in a new all-time low. Only 30 people made up the small line that was patiently waiting outside the store, hoping for the doors to open.

While the line might have been shorter, the passion and desire of those waiting was just the same as seen in previous years. Take Mazen Kourouche. He happened to head up the line after waiting for 11 days in front of the Sydney Apple Store.

With the addition this year of the tenth anniversary model, the Apple iPhone X (pronounced 'Ten'), consumers are sitting back, waiting to check out the premium model to see if that is the one they want to buy. Pre-orders for the iPhone X begin on October 27th with the launch taking place on November 3rd. However, with production of the premium model rumored to be not starting until next month, availability is going to be tight for the iPhone X, which should still see heavy demand despite the $999 price for the 64GB version.

The iPhone X has a larger 5.8-inch OLED screen, and features the new facial recognition system called Face ID. It comes with an edge-to-edge display and offers 2 hours more battery life than the iPhone 7.

I don't know whether to applaud these 30 brave men and women or laugh at them.

I will wait and check out when available. No need to pre order either. Like to wait and see what bugs might crop up.

Apple has been getting away from the whole line up for iPhones, but If you want to see a line, wait for the X to launch. If Apple have units in store to purchase on launch day, there will be lines wrapped around the block across the globe. You can bet on it!

"Apple has been getting away from the whole line up for iPhones, but If you want to see a line, wait for the X to launch." Have they really? I always thought they liked when people camped out for their phones because of the publicity and the great optics for the media. I do agree the lines for the X will be longer though.

People who unironically think they need a smartphone to keep their white blood cell count regular will be the only ones waiting for the X after "mug me midnight" passes. Shame isn't a thing we process easily anymore as a species.

Wonder what these people do with their life that they can take 11 days to wait for a phone. No job? No kids? No pets? No responsibilities?

There at millions of self employed people who can take couple weeks off if the wanted to - and it’s not your or my business how they wish to spend it.

Most iPhone fans are probably waiting for the X. It will then be chaotic lines outside Apple stores. Next year, right?

You can literally walk in and grab the 8/8 plus with no problem. There is no constraint. You can easily see that on the website. Why in the world would anybody stand in line? Last is the biggest reason no one is in line. It’s called th iPhone X!

Are iTards a dying breed? I guess even Australians are getting fed up with paying more for less.

No phone is worth camping outside a shop for, same for any retail product.

Guaranteed...provided it's a noteworthy upgrade from previous versions.

This comment would indicate that the total number of sales does not correlate to the total number of devices a company releases. I had been under the impression that when a company releases 3 x devices, that means that their sales should triple. At least that's what I'd been told...over and over and over.

I'm not surprised, most people despite the price tag probably want the iPhone X tbh, 4 years of the same boring deign will do that to you, I literally could not stand to buy a new device that looked exactly the same as my current device. Yes I think it's crazy to spend $1k on a phone but the fact of the matter is, if I just had to get a new iPhone this year I would get the iPhone X anyway and call my stupid for doing so. Even people who can't afford the iPhone X will still be getting it, ahhh the beauty of installment and trade in plans smh.

I don’t know. I always upgraded my iPhone when I thought its worth it. This year, I won’t upgrade my iPhone 7 because the iPhone X did not impress me. Sure it’s a different and unique design and the camera seems to be excellent. But I still not really do more with this phone compared to my iPhone 7 but Apple charges me 400€ more. No way I will buy.

Same here, I had a 6 then got the SE - I prefer a smaller phone and one-handed use, I was thinking about the 8 and X but not enough to sway me this year. How weird, I thought according to many here that we were all sheep who buy whatever Apple make?! :|

We have a similar way of thinking then, unfortunately most don't think like us. As for the iPhone X, no touch id or home button and the battery life isn't what I was expecting , has a great soc and camera but those two aren't worth $1k imo.

Yes. My feeling tells me that iphone x is not really what Apple wanted it to be in the first place. That is maybe also the reason why it launches so late. I am quite sure that Apple wanted to have a fingerprint reader unter the screen in the first place. I will surely wait with my next purchase until the bezel less design has been perfected.

Apple did want the scanner under the screen and a virtual home button to go with it, they even considered keeping the home button without the scanner, I don't see why they didn't. I really hope Apple manages to add those things next year and I cross my fingers that they find away to get rid of that notch somehow lol.
