Nokia Lumia 1520 for AT&T codenamed Beastie, leaked photo suggests

Rejoice, Windows Phone aficionados, as the Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet is indeed coming to AT&T, just as rumored, under the clever nickname Beastie, judging from a blurry leaked photo of the carrier variant. The international version was strutting its stuff as Bandit not long ago.

Beastie seems to suit the largest WP handset ever right, if we count the speculated 6" Full HD screen, possible quad-core chipset, and a claimed 20 MP camera with PureView Phase 1 oversampling technology and possibly optical image stabilization. There seem to be some subtle differences between the leaked international version and the AT&T variation, though, such as the connector pins on the back, which here are moved at the bottom instead of the top, but it might still be a prototype, so no conclusions are to be made before announcement.

The unveiling and launch seem imminent, so we'd be surprised if you won't be able to snag the Lumia 1520 as a Christmas gift for yourself or someone else.

I recently bought my first WP through vodacon SA on a 2 year contract. Being my first experience with windows phone i opted for the Lumia 520. At first i felt it ok, the navigation is top notch but, then, the battery dies in a few hours, i cant download any movies on it - only stream/watch online. i got so fed up with it that i gave it to my house maid. Even she was looking for live wallpapers and was dumb struck to find out it wont work on WP. What im saying is, I will never buy another windows phone device ever again regardless of the screen or how top notch the camera is.

As i said, Since it was my first experience with windows phone. I wanted to see what windows phone is all about before i got anything better. I considered the 1020 but R10 000 in cash would have went to my House maid if i did that. 1020 isnt available on contract here just yet.

Wait, why are you buying a 520 when you can afford a house maid? Live wall paper really? Someone should explain to her that live wall paper does work in the WP UI design concept

Anyone noticed those holes/speaker grill?/charging pins? on the top of 1520 are not there any more? And the charging pins are down to the bottom now? Looks like this could be one of the final builds!

Did you read the article man? It said the same thing about the differences.

Both you and the article are mistaken. The 5 holes at the top of the phone have nothing to do with the contact pins at the bottom. If you look at the pictures of the Lumia 1520 there is not a speaker grill in sight. This has led my to believe that the 5 holes at the top of the phone are for the speaker. It is a tidied up version of the layout on the Lumia 925. After all, the holes have always been far too small to be contacts for wireless charging. Also, why would they have 5 when they could just have three in their prototypes? Then again, they could be to do with the rumoured 4 HAAC mics. I haven't seen any place for them either. The reason why you can't see the 5 small holes at the top of the phone in this picture is because it is blurred and detail at the top of the picture has been smoothed out. The reason why you haven't seen the three contacts on the bottom of the phone before is because you are looking at two different versions of the Lumia 1520. It has been confirmed that the global version has wireless charging built-in, whereas, the AT&T version (above) has it as an add-on presumably with an additional case like on the Lumia 925.

I hope they do, they are allowed too, so why not? But, Microsoft like to be erratic and weird.

Nokia devices division it's not Micorsoft's yet, the deal will only be closed in 2014

Apparently that's still being worked out. They want a smooth transition, so it seems unlikely that the Nokia name will disappear too soon.

Guys, I was sent 4 different varients of the Nokia Lumia 1520 in a 6 month period below: February to March: 5.5 inch, 2GB Ram, 32GB, 16 mega pixel March to April: 5.8 inch, 2GB Ram, 64GB, 18 mega pixel April to May: 6 inch, 3GB Ram, 64GB, 21 mega pixel May to August: 6.5 inch, 4GB Ram, 128GB, 41 mega pixel with stylus pen The best one out of them all was the final one, it was so powerful and super slim, the camera was so wide on the back but it wasn\'t thick, it will like a professional camera lense but really slim on the back. I think they will make their decision on which one would be the best to sell. I gave the last one the highest score, not sure what other prototypers scored it? .
