Nokia Carla devices coming, update to arrive by end-2012?
First it was Symbian Anna, then the platform got update to Nokia Belle, and next on the line is the Nokia Carla - the third big update for existing Symbian^3 handsets. Nokia Carla will arrive on new handsets in Q3 2012, while existing phones will be bumped up to Carla in the last quarter of the year, a trusted source confirmed for Nokiapower user.
Now, Nokia is also allegedly planning to ship three of its existing devices - the Nokia 603, Nokia 700 and Nokia 701 with Carla come the third trimester of the year.
The list of legacy devices that will get updated includes the Nokia N8, C7, E7, X7, E6 and C6-01, but the update they’ll receive will be a light version of Carla, not the full blown one. Newer Nokia phones will also get bumped up to the new version.
The tipster suggested that, contrary to previous rumors, there will be more than one new device coming with Carla. Earlier, we’ve heard that Nokia is planning to sing Symbian’s swan song with a single Nokia N8 successor, and focus solely on Windows Phone and Series 40 from there on. There will allegedly be at least two additional devices apart from that rumored Nokia N8 successor, all with Carla aboard.
The future Symbian/Nokia Carla update focuses around enhancements in four areas: it will bring smoother Browser version 8.0, dolby surround, better NFC support and resizable widgets.
