Moto Z4 Play leaks: notched display, single rear camera, Moto Mods support

Despite the Moto Z3 Play's mostly positive reviews, its price tag was largely seen as unjustified when it launched last year. But within the next couple of months, it now seems Motorola could redeem itself.

As revealed by CompareRaja, the Chicago-based brand is already hard at work on the Moto Z4 Play. Like previous models, one of the standout features will be Moto Mods support. This time around, though, a number of key changes have been implemented.

After sticking to 16:9 displays throughout 2017, Motorola finally made the jump to 18:9 panels last year. Since then, smartphone designs have continued to advance and it clearly shows as Motorola has fitted the Moto Z4 Play with a much taller 6.2-inch panel that boasts extremely thin side bezels, a tiny waterdrop-like notch up top, and a pretty small chin down below.

Moving over to the rear, the usual design elements are retained. Interestingly, though, the dual-camera setup featured on the Moto Z3 Play has been removed in favor of just one unspecified rear sensor.

Completing the smartphone’s external setup is the fingerprint scanner. As visible in the renders, it’s not featured along the frame or on the rear. In actual fact, it seems Motorola has fitted the sensor underneath the screen.

In regards to the Moto Z4 Play’s release date, the smartphone is likely to go official by either March or April 2019. Specifications currently remain unclear but the Snapdragon 670 or 675 are likely candidates for the processor – this would allow Motorola to position the device above the upcoming Moto G7 lineup.
