It’s not uncommon for Chinese smartphone makers to copy other manufacturers - especially Apple. Meizu is one of these handset makers, and, if you look at its very first smartphone (the Android-based
MX), you can clearly notice an iPhone vibe in its design. However, unlike Xiaomi, which
denies copying Apple, Meizu doesn’t seem to be bothered by the comparison with the Cupertino giant.
Talking to Chinese media, one of Meizu’s execs reportedly said that his company has a lot to learn from Apple and its products. When it comes to smartphones, the exec sees Meizu as being positioned somewhere between Xiaomi and Apple (this, however, isn’t reflected in sales, as Xiaomi is selling way more handsets that Meizu).
The Meizu official also talked about the
MX4 Pro, the company’s next flagship smartphone. He reconfirmed that the handset would be available starting November, coming with a fingerprint scanner, and - in his opinion - being better than the
Huawei Ascend Mate 7 (one of the nicest China-made smartphones we’ve seen lately). The Meizu MX4 Pro will feature a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, and might
run Ubuntu Touch,
or YunOS, or both. Guess we’ll find out more about the handset next month.
