Massive 1.3GB Android Oreo update coming to Nokia 8, HMD teases with beta pics

It looks like the Nokia 8 is set to receive Android Oreo pretty soon. The first sign for this was a Geekbench listing which hinted that the latest software from Google is currently being tested on the 2017 Nokia flagship.

On its own, this appearance wasn't exactly a 100% guarantee for the looming update, but over the weekend, HMD's Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas practically put all doubts to rest. The company official shared a couple of pretty interesting images on Twitter:

Just give me a Nokia 808 follow up and I'm there.

The Lumia 909 (1020) was the follow up. But indeed bring us a next level monster!

Not as fast as Google with the Nexus and the Pixel.

Lol, they sure do release their security updates to their handsets faster than Google does to Nexus and Pixel.

Such honor was used to be given to Motorola users, but these day Motorola are producing stock android with slow updates.

Lenovo killed Motorola. The Moto X Pure Edition still doesn't have Nougat or 7.1 IIRC.

Was there really ever doubt that the Nokia 8 was going to get a Android 8.0 Oreo update? HMD just revealed it last month and it's their flagship. If they didn't, it would have been a PR nightmare of Note 7 proportions. HMD could have gotten away with not updating the still rumored 2,3 and maybe 5, as that's something that you unfortunately have to expect with budget devices. However, if HMD hadn't delivered an 8.0 update to the more premium 6 & 8, it would of tranished the Nokia name in the Android space, especially since HMD is using bone stock Android

Awesome that the Nokia 8 is getting the Oreo update so soon after it's release. HMD has really been doing the Nokia name proud, and I'm also loving the way that they have been releasing fast security updates, with said updates even hitting their handsets before Google releases it for the Pixel and Nexus line.

A one time occurrence doesn't mean that it's a regular thing.

It happened more than once. Try doing your research once in a while.

Kudo's to Nokia and Sony for the quick updates! Meanwhile, my flagship G6 is still on 7.0...

Nokia 8 could be the replacement for my crappy and laggy Samsung S6.
