Is this the Sony Xperia Z5?
Just last week, the Sony Xperia Z4 become official. Now, we are passing along what is alleged to be a picture of the Sony Xperia Z5. Earlier this month (even before the Xperia Z4 was announced) we passed along speculation about the fifth-generation Xperia Z handset that could arrive in the fourth quarter of this year if Qualcomm has the Snapdragon 820 SoC ready by then.

From the picture, we can see that the rear camera will be placed on the top left of the phone, where it has been. The side of the device appears to be metallic. The photo was found on a Weibo site out of China, and the posting mentions "Type-C" which could refer to a USB-C port. This will allow users to plug in a USB-C connector with either side of the plug facing up. The posting also shows the number "9" which could refer to a September unveiling for the phone.

Other rumored specs include a 1440 x 2560 resolution screen, a Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM inside, an improved rear camera (although still not equipped with OIS), the Qualcomm Sense ID fingerprint scanner, and a new design. The latter doesn't look terribly apparent from the leaked photo, but then again it is hard to judge when looking at a picture snapped by Mr. Blurrycam.

Xperia Z4.5 - Its what the Z4 should have been, but you have to pay more for it. Yet other option offer these specs now. Shame on Sony.

The Z4 is only a Japanese release... think about it as the Galaxy S5 Korean exclusive version...

They have to do something more advance for the international market for sure... Hopefully this is it, and if the rumours are true, then I will look forward to it.

No point arguing with a Samsung shill like techie

the z3 is still a flagship worth buying so it makes sensefor sony to wait till q4 or 2016 for the newer flagship , with all the issues with the SD 810.

if you want battery life and SD card slot then it's still the best phone on the market. especially the z3 compact which offers really good bang for buck.

with a few tweaks to the camera, it's actually competitive. but battery life is excellent and unmatched unlike galaxy S phones.

Now I get what sony is up to! They think that if they start bringing out a phone with '6' in name, they will get the market? isn't that obvious?!

If you're in Japan you can buy Z4. If not wait for Z5 cause it'll be a different flagship by Sony just like they showed the original Z.

This pictures shows nothing that says it is the Z5. It could be a Z3 for all we know.
And i am pretty sure that Sony will deliver something new in terms of design with the Z5.

Hm. Now we're talking. But unless this is coming out next spring - what's the point of the Z4 again?!

Unless you live in Japan, you are pretty much unlikely to get your hands on the "Z4"...guess you could import it! The point of this would be its sale to the international market given a June 2015 release would mean 9 months since the Z3 and September 2015 would a good year down the line! So there.....

So they are going to keep the Z3 for the international market until they announce the Z5 in September and release it in October and have the Z4 with 810 and it's improvements just for the competitive homeland. Makes sense, they've just split the two flagships a year to different regions or more like Japan and International.

That looks interesting. It could be lighting or my eyes playing tricks on me but the pictures make the back looks slightly curved. Like an HTC 8x.

Suck T C is the last company Sony should be influenced by.

You do remember the Xperia Arc series...? Sony was doing curved back then so how exactly would this be being influenced by HTC...? Plenty of phones with concave/convex backs abound already....!

I remember the ARC series. I actually had an Xperia S which was also curved. Now that I think of it, the ZL had a curve too.

That said, that does look more like an 8x than any of the curved Sony phones.

Sony has been doing curved phones before HTC.

So if camera position is same as on z3 or z4 you end up thinking that there are not some radical desing changes. Look at s6 it has camera on same position as s5 but owerall desing is diferent.

It's been a while since the last "blurry leak which doesn't mean anything but guess work"

Why wouldn't it be Z6 instead ?

If Sony somehow manages to get the SD820 and Sense ID in before 2016, I'm so freaking getting it :D Qualcomm can't screw up the node shrink this time.

So, Sony fans have to wait until 2016 to get specs that other devices have right now since last year? Sony and Apple have so much in common. Well that's a year quicker than when 1440p will hit the iPhone.

That is why Apple is using Samsung to make a display, Sony should do the same. So you can get the best NOW, not 2 years from now when it cheaper and you pay the price is now.

This is what I don't understand about Sony and Apple users. They willing pay their cost and have lesser specs. Then when those 2 finally move up to standard stuff, that stuff is cheaper and they end up paying the same price for it 2 years later when the price has already dropped. Isn't that stupid?

You can buy several phones right now with 1440p starting at $599 for an S6. Next year Sony may have 1440p and its going to cost more. Then Apple will likely put it on the iPhone 7 and its going to cost more too. Sony has got to do better.

Your arguments are only about screen resolution, but the price of comparable Sony phones vs Apple phones are a lot...

The Z3 Compact can be bought right now for less than $400. The iPhone 6 (16GB) $690

And in my opinion the only thing missing on the Xperia devices that really matters for ME is the fingerprint scanner, but on the other hand it includes waterproofing, microSD slot, MHL 3.0 connection, secondary charging port (magnetic port), stereo front facing speakers, dedicated 2 stage camera shutter button, eyelet lanyard, standard USB host (mine included the cable).

1440p screens are not necessary even for 5.2" screens... why should they upgrade it if it comes at a cost on processing and battery?

Nothing is wrong with sony phone, who want to buy a phone with the same design over and over again though? but we hope for design change in z5 its their last change.

I wouldn't expect a Jeep Wrangler to drastically change its iconic design... so if the design looks good, works ergonomically, and allows for useful features, then why change it completely?
I DO expect to change slightly here and there to forever improve it, but why trash it completely?

Additionally everybody knows what the iPhone looks like (in basic shape) and everyone knows what a Galaxy looks like.... they both have their iconic layout ingrained in people's head with their round and rectangle buttons... so it is not bad that Sony tries to keep a form factor that people recognize as a Sony Xperia...

You're comparing a $30,000 car to a $600 phone that it cost them $200 to make?

Cars in general keep a similar design and spec for maybe 5 years. But R&D on changing the design of a car is much higher.

I am sure car companies would change a cars design every year but they can't. Because changing the cars design also requires making the stuff you had fit. A drastic change in design, means the engine they already spent millions to make wont fit. The its a lose.

A phone is not the same. The SnapDragon 801 and 810 use the exact same die size, same for the GPU.

Look at the spec list man, the parts are nearly 100% identical. They changed 2 parts and that's it. 3 if you coujt they simply mirrored the front face.

The fact you compared the design change cost and requirements for a $30,000 truck vs a $200 phone is totally BS. Shame on you.

Unlike some guys here I am not picking on Sony. Apple does this BS too. The forst 3 iPhone were 100% identical. They used the same CPU and CPU and all they got were speed bumps. The iPhone 4 and 4S were 100% identical, The 5 and 5S and 5C were all identical devices just as both 6's are identical with the only difference being size and the 6S is goings be just like them.

With the Galaxy S series, The S models didn't charge the same hardware. Even tho the S4 and S5 shared the same resolution, they didn't use the exact same screen. Even though the Note 3 shared the same resolution as the S4, it wasn't the same screen just made bigger.

For what these thing cost on retail, they should be better especially when they come from brands who are suppose to be know as the top dogs. Sony and Apple are suppose to be the leaders. The reason they both always get beat is because they don't know how to keep a lead.

Wow you really worked hard to try and make your arguments valid. However you missed the point.

1. I am not comparing a car for the sake of it... I am comparing the Jeep Wrangler because it has have an iconic form that is internationally recognized and that is exactly what Apple did with the iPhone and what Samsung did with ALL of the Galaxies... and even if you do not want to face it, they all look very similar, they HAVE TO, it is more beneficial for them to have people look a phone and easily recognize it as a specific brand, than to see a phone and have no idea what it is and assume that it is "garbage"...
To be honest I DO WISH Sony took more risk with designs like the did with the Xperia SP, ZL, TX, etc and implemented in new models, but I believe they don't because they want people to look at their slabs and say "Thats an Xperia" it has happened to me, it is hard to find other people with Xperia devices, but the moment I see it I recognize it, just like regular people recognize an iPhone, a Galaxy or even a BB.
The reason Samsung is releasing a NORMAL S6 & a S6 Edge is not because of price, is because they need to make a transition to the new form that people instantly recognize. Otherwise the would have just release the Edge version and be done with it.

2. Regarding your post #29... FOR THE PRICE I PAID, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact offered the BEST features and specs that also fit my needs. You are admitting that you are not even too familiar with Xperia devices and still you go on arguing about it as if you knew...
Find me the links with the prices you posted because cheapest Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6 (regular) starts at $680.
The cheapest iPhone 6 from Apple website is indeed $650
The Xperia Z3 from Sony website is $570
The Xperia Z3 Compact is $470

3. The Z4 has not been announced yet... the one you are talking about is a specific regional Japanese version. For all we know the international version will be better and different.

4. Regarding your post #32. The Xperia Z3 Compact is ABSOLUTELY not comparable with any other MINI offerings from Samsung, HTC or LG. The Z3C is indeed a flagship in a smaller form factor.

Differences between Z3 vs Z3C:
- 3GB RAM vs 2GB RAM
- 5.2" 1080p screen vs 4.6" 720p screen

THAT IS IT!. Everything else from the CPU, GPU, connectivity, Camera hardware, Camera features, is identical.

Differences between S5 vs S5 Mini:
- Many 3G / LTE bands vs fewer Bands
- 5.1" 1080p screen vs 4.5" 720p screen
- SnapDragon 801 vs Exynos 3
- 2GB RAM vs 1.5GB RAM
- 16MP Camera with phase detection vs 8MP camera with fewer features
- microUSB 3.0 with MHL and USB Host vs regular microUSB with no extra features.
- Barometer vs nothing
- Special Samsung movement and smart features vs less of that.

So don't tell me that the Z3 Compact is not a flagship, you are just ignorant about it.

I am just correcting you because you are making false statements in a Sony article.
