Huawei's foldable phone specs and release get detailed, screen is larger than Samsung's

Just as it was rumored before, the bendable display panel itself is to be provided by BOE, the same folks who made the curved OLED panel of the Mate 20 Pro. Huawei has already pitched the device to Korean carriers, reports local media today, and an insider commented that it wasn't a prototype or a proof of concept device:

Why Korea first? Well, Huawei is planning to launch its first foldable phone as a 5G-capable device, and only Korea will have a wide 5G network up and running in the first half of 2019, when Huawei is said to release its Gumby handset. The company is most likely going to announce the handset at the MWC expo in March, and then push it out in the April-June period after extensive testing on the 5G network.

Mum's the word on pricing yet, but the screen sizes are tipped to be 5" for the external display when the phone is in a folded state and 8" when the internal display is pushed open. These diagonals are larger than Samsung's listed 4.6" and 7.3", respectively, and this is why, kids, it's important to have competition.
