The Mate 30 Lite could be Huawei's first phone with Harmony OS
Huawei has been developing its own operating system for years and ultimately decided to put its “Plan B” into action when the United States imposed a trade ban upon it back in May. Things have since improved but Huawei reportedly still has plans to launch a Harmony OS-powered smartphone later this year. Today, the device this will be appears to have been revealed.

According to one Slashleaks contributor, Huawei is currently preparing two variants of the Mate 30 Lite for release in mid-September. The model destine for Europe and other international markets will ship with Android 10 Q and EMUI 10 straight out of the box, while the version created for the Chinese market will be Huawei’s first phone to have its custom operating system pre-installed.

Specific details about Harmony OS are yet to be revealed but a recent report claimed Huawei was planning a formal introduction in China tomorrow. The operating system has apparently been designed with a wide range of devices in mind and should make its debut on an Honor-branded Smart TV that could launch this weekend.

Regarding the Mate 30 Lite itself, recent leaks suggest the smartphone will sport a 6.26-inch punch-hole display and a quadruple-camera setup on the rear which is houses within a square module. There will reportedly be a main 48-megapixel snapper, an 8-megapixel camera of unknown functionality, and two unspecified 2-megapixel sensors.

Completing the setup should be Huawei’s Kirin 810 paired with a minimum of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. However, a separate 8/256GB version is rumored. Lastly, the smartphone should include a 3,900mAh battery.
