HTC One (M8) updated to Android 5.0 in India

On the day before its 90-day promise to update all HTC One (M8) units with Android 5.0 expires (HTC has already explained that it won't meet the deadline for all variants of its flagship phone), those with the handset in India are receiving the 574.17MB Lollipop update. Interestingly, those in Europe received a 780MB update with no differences between the two changelogs.

The software update to version 4.18.720.8 brings Android 5.0 (natch!), lock screens and notifications done up in the Lollipop UI style, pull-down Quick Settings, the re-designed 'Recent Apps' multitasking feature and the search function available in settings, to name a few changes. HTC suggests that users be connected to Wi-Fi while downloading the update, and the battery should be at least 50% charged.

As we noted above, HTC had originally promised HTC One (M8) owners that they would receive Android 5.0 no later than 90 days after Google turned over the final version to them. And while the Google Play edition, the Developer Edition, and unlocked versions of the phone in various countries have received the update, U.S. carrier models will have to wait for a version of Android 5.0 that fixes some minor bugs. When that will take place, no one knows.
