HMD says all current Nokia smartphones will be upgraded to Android P

HMD has already committed to updating all its Nokia smartphones launched this year to Android 8.0 Oreo. Even the cheap Nokia 3 is supposed to be upgraded to the new version of the OS by the end of the year.

Well, it looks like the Finnish company took it even further and said that all its current Nokia smartphones will be upgraded to Android P soon after Google releases it next year. The announcement was made earlier today at a launch event in the Philippines.

It's safe to assume that all other Nokia smartphones HMD will launch by the time Android P goes official will also be upgraded to the new version of the OS. Perhaps the rumored Nokia 2, which will be the company's cheapest smartphone, might not be powerful enough for Android P, but that remains to be seen.

You can check statement coming from HMD's official at the link below which will take you to a Facebook page. You'll want to listen from around 41:00-minute mark for details about Android P update for Nokia smartphones.

Now this is a welcome surprise! HMD is really showing some spectacular support for their Nokia branded smartphones, and doing that Nokia name proud. Props to you for this, HMD.

They also aren’t releasing update after update after update to fix functionality that the last update broke like Apple, either. ;)

So agree. Great strategy to compete with a budget company moving away from updates. If they could make a phone with an sd625 around $300, I'd have no other choice...

This is what a real OEM is. Support for all devices regardless of price point. Take note every other OEM.

This is a very welcome news hopefully other OEMs follow Nokia on this strategy. That would be better if google will require those OEMs

They say that now, but watch the excuses fly a year from now when they decide it no longer makes sense to update the Nokia 3.

Lenovo(motorola) is a chinese company. Chinese aren't famous for their commitments. But with finnishs that's a different story. If they say they will update their phones to Android P, they definitely will.

This is how you sell things. Just support the customers who have already shown their faith in you by paying. Not just forget them & provide no support. I remember my brother buying Lenovo Z2 pro.. He was so upset with his phone after the 1st year.

If Nokia keeps its promise with the updates, then they are here to stay. Their phone portfolio already looks promising.

Will u guys stop Chearleeding Look at Nokia 6 xda forums, there members have not received any ota since June, no security patches nothing. Meanwhile Nokia announcing right and left but ground reality is just opposite.

That’s funny, because I just went to the Nokia 6 xda forums to see if there was any validity to your claim, and found nothing saying anything about Nokia 6 owners not having the current security update. The full OS update from Nougat to Oreo hasn’t been released yet for the Nokia 6, and HMD/Nokia have not said that it’s available yet. And then there is this: https://imgur.com/a/StWM2 My Nokia 6^ on the September Security patch, which is up to date. So no, Nokia has not been doing the opposite of what they’ve been saying. They have been sticking to their word. Sorry, but not sorry to disappoint you. I’ll continue cheering now, as can everyone else. ;D

Will Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 also be upgraded? I do not trust that much, no.
