Notch-ing new: serial leakster reveals his information on the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

For a while now, we've been hearing reports about this year's Google Pixel phones. From the rumor that there may be three new handsets this time around — with one supposed midranger to be added to your usual flagship duo — to exact leaks pointing out that the Pixel 3 XL's display would have an OLED panel made by LG.

We also keep hearing about the notch. Allegedly, the Pixel 3 XL will have a cutout at the top of the display, housing not one but two selfie cameras, while the regular Pixel 3 would keep the classic rectangular look.

Serial leakster @OnLeaks has now chimed in with his own information on the matter. According to him, this is correct — Pixel 3 XL will have a notch, while the Pixel 3 will not. He has also spilled the beans on the expected screen sizes. 5.3 inches for the smaller model, 6.2 inches for the XL.

As far as how accurate this leak is — time will tell, but @OnLeaks rarely jumps the gun before making sure the information is solid, and has a good track record with leaks in the past.

I'm personally not a fan of the way the Google Pixel 3 XL looks, as the notch is a design compromise, it completely ruins the natural and universal standard of display shapes. Having something that bulges in and out is just not cohesive with a display. I know that manufacturers do it to gain better screen-to-body ratios, but smartphones like the iphone X has a lower screen-to-body ratio than smartphones without a compromising notch, such as the Galaxy S9 or Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. I do like the way the Google Pixel 3 looks, it's elegant and not compromised. It's kind of a Samsung Infinity Design copy, but i don't really care, as everyone copies everyone in the smartphone world.

Your right about the notch and a screen that uses the most space on the front of a smartphone, is really bragging rights. However the notch on Android smartphones is controllable. If you only want your apps to use the display starting from the bottom of the notch, then just set an option to do that. If you want to use the screen space available on either side of the notch, then change an option in the settings to do that. This a far better option than the iPhone X. Apples FORCES it's developer to support and embrace the notch, because they have no other choice. At least with Android developers don't have to change a thing, and all apps will work, unlike Apples iPhone X where there is absolutely no other option, and if apps don't support the iPhone X notch, then those apps might not function correctly.

People who are crazy for bezel-less to blame on the notch designs.

If it is 5 3", must be 16:9

It 'might' be 2:1. In fact; I think it 'should' be 2:1. The Nokia 3.1's 5.2" 2:1 display is basically as wide as 4.7" 16:9 you see in iPhone* and I don't think it's tiny. It's just compact; in a good way. *,7-inch-d%7B9x16%7D-vs-5,2-inch-d%7B1x2%7D

I'll be getting the smaller Pixel then. The notch is an ugly design trend.

5.3 inch in 2:1 ratio is a dream come true

Wait till you hear the battery capacity. It will be sub-3000 mAh, since 5.3" with 18:9 and slim bezels leaves very little room for battery capacity.

Yes, because it'd be as wide as a 4.8" 16:9 Display* and I wish manufacturers take a break from notches, curved edges and bezel-less designs and focus on small, compact displays with high resolutions. *,8-inch-d%7B9x16%7D-vs-5,3-inch-d%7B1x2%7D

Pixel 3 makes perfect sense. I can't even comprehend how someone in the first place came up with that stupid idea of notch and then had stag of followers do the same thing. Even more people get used to that. Thanks God there is an option to hide that hardware bleed.

except they leave out juicy features for the Pixel 3 XL, there's no how the Pixel 3 XL will sell more than the Pixel 3. The Pixel 3 is just right in almost every dimension imo.

I wonder how they plan on gimping the smaller Pixel to try and push people into buying the larger one. First, according to rumors, is the dual camera set up on the front. I wonder what else they will do.

The first phone to introduce the notch was Essential by Andy Reuben. But as usual the credit is taken by Apple. Everyone says that every manufacturer is copying Apple including Phone Arena. I admire Apple for their excellent engineering of products and I am a share holder too. But not presenting facts properly is not correct. People should stop saying the Xaiomi, Huawei and other manufacturers copied apple wit regard to notch is totally incorrect and false representation.

Going for Pixel 3 this year. Retiring my Moto X 2014 (which is still faster, smoother and stable than some higly anticipated laggy devices) this year.
