Galaxy S9 and S9+ may be the most expensive Samsung S-line phones ever

Galaxy S9 and S9+ may be the most expensive Samsung S-line phones ever
Not that it comes as a huge surprise, given that we just had the most expensive year on record in terms of average smartphone prices, but a leaker with a good track record tips that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will fit comfortably into that trend, and become the most expensive phones in the history of Samsung's flagship S-line. As you may recall, the Galaxy S7 started at $650, its successor Galaxy S8 at $750, and we shudder to think what this might mean for the Galaxy S9

Are we looking at an $800 starting price here? Please let Ricciolo be wrong, but, when it comes to pricing, the guy has correctly predicted the tags range of Samsung's S-line phones for a few years in a row. Granted, that variable camera aperture doesn't come cheap, as Samsung's first phone with it - the W2018 clamshell - can attest, but still, those prices will indeed be getting out of hand, if this rumor holds water on February 25, when the Galaxy S9 is expected to be announced.

Fu*k it samsung i expected it to be cheaper than the s8 initial price It is isn't like they gave the s9 a secondary camera or 6gb of ram or underscreen fingerprint or even a bigger battery and they are using many of the s8 parts More expensive ! My a$$

not buying this time, i expect more from them, and front f-ing speaker. i put a mophi juice pack on 2 days ago to try it and the redirection of the speaker is worth the $100

It's supposedly packing a very fast 4.x trillion operations per second AI processor separate from the SD 845 SoC, which also has its own AI on board. The Pixel 2's have a separate 3 trillion operations per second AI processor as well as a SD 835 SoC. Apples A11 bionic has a 600 billion operations per second AI processor. The Pixels is 5 times faster than Apples, and Samsung's is almost 7 times faster than Apples AI processor. Tech costs money. Especially the lastest tech.

It will be faster but still laggy as usual. Samsung is “famous” for lag.

Just provide validation as to why without spouting nonsense like 'strongest glass ever on a smartphone' or '1 in a 1,000,000' security level that is just invalidated days later.

I don't care. I'm off the flagship bandwagon anyways. 3T is the last flag I'll ever purchase. Going through all the important expenditures in life, preparing for marriage, getting a home, spending that much cash on something that is little more than a trinket in the background of what really matters is foolish. I'll save the extra from buying mid-range phones instead of flags and put it towards something really worthwhile.

Good move. I'm not enthused by anything on the market at the moment. I'll save my £700-800+ until something worthy comes along. Good luck with the wedding :-)

My Moto e4 Plus is the best phone I've ever owned. Total cost? $150. As long as you're not a hard core gamer it just seems like insanity to throw money at flagships.

Having great camera is great though but I agree with the rest, IMO any mid range phone that came after 2014 is perfectly usable in 2018 if you don't care about gaming and other crap like 4K or QHD displays

Especially these $800-$1200 phones comes out then a new one comes a few months to a year tops.

You'd have a job convincing people that they need to pay another $100 for a variable aperture that they probably don't care about. I cant see it making a noticeable difference unless they gimp the processing of photos taken on the lower f-number

Hopefully they will learn some lesson from iPhone X.

Here, S8 arrived for price equivalent to $1200. I agree with everyone here. But I cannot understand why many ppl feel need to get new phone yearly. A phone can work well for 3 years. Also I wonder why some ppl have 3, 4 or even 7 devices. Couple weeks ago, I read a comment and the guy said to own more than 6 phones. Including S8, iphone X and mate 10 pro.

I like to have the latest tech that is going to meet my needs which means I upgrade every 6 to 12 months. Each to their own priorities.

Depends if you would feel the device is really worth the price.

Well, what did you expect? Note 8's price didnt drop much since launch date, and if they release S9 with similar price (or even lower than Note8) no one gonna buy note8, since S9 got better chipset, better camera, and other stuffs for slightly higher price (than current price of note 8), Samsung want S9 to sell well but they also need to sell note 8
