Galaxy A8 (2018) leaks in new renders: Samsung's bezel-less mid-ranger is a beaut'

Official renders of the Galaxy A8 (2018) have just been unraveled by popular Dutch website

Showing the upcoming mid-range bezel-busting trooper that Samsung is prepping in concert with an official-looking flip cases painted in different colors. Provided that the renders are real, which is rather likely, they will be confirming the much more logical placement of the fingerprint scanner at the back, which will be placed immediately below the camera unit and not offset to the side like on the Galaxy S8.

Of course, a fingerprint scanner at the back is required due to the tall, 2:1 bezel-busting display that will most definitely take up the front of the device, leaving no space for a conventional hardware button with the vital biometric sensor embedded. This is also confirmed by the recently-leaked manual for the device.

The Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Galaxy A8 Plus (2018) are expected to  be announced soon as the rate of leaks is increasing. You can read more about the devices and their expected specs right here.

the only thing that I would consider bad in the series 2017 was the camera so if they improve it drastically + other enhancements and improvements this could be a very tempting device to buy if priced at 450-500 for the a8+ 6gb ram model

That phone looks a bit strange without the screen curve.

You must be blind to qualify this as "bezel-less"...just like with the Pixel 2 XL.

all the phones currently in what I call the less-bezel stage it will be a while until we see a true 100% bezel-less device

No one is going to see true 100% screen to body ratio ever. But reduced bezel from all four sides like iPhone X (- notch) , that's gonna happen in next 2-3 years. P.S. The selfie has to go back with some sort of rotating mechanism.

This! I notice sometimes phones with clearly visible "bezels" are called "bezel-less" or "bezel-free". Am I missing something? Wouldn't "slim-bezel" be more appropriate? It's the whole "hover board" thing for smartphones.

Bezel-less doesn't mean without bezel. It means with "less" bezel. Look up the word less. If you have a dollar and I have only 50 cents, it just means I have less money than you. It doesn't mean I don't have any money.

The strict meaning of "less" is as you described, however, in the English language, if you attach "-less" to the end of a phrase, it means "without." Needless = no need Useless = no use Careless = no care Homeless = no home Bezel-less = no bezel It goes even deeper, such as "fruitless" meaning literally no fruit, but most often used as an idiom to say "without result" or without any gains." In the same way that "base-less" is used to say "without facts/proof" or the tern "thankless" meaning without due gratitude. Not trying to be annoying, just a simple explanation. Thus, in this sense, the term "bezel-less" IS used to mean no bezel, and I feel that it is incorrectly being used to describe all phones with the new taller (2:1) aspect ratio (which all still have bezels, but to a lesser extent.)

This phone has alot of potential as a midranger. But pricing it from $500-$600 is absolutely ridiculous.

Great mid ranger, but I'd rather get the S8+ for roughly that price, not to mention the eventual further drop in price once this actually comes to market along with the new S9.

Nice. Can't wait for it to come to Globe Telecom. The only thing is, Samsung is using the edge design on so many phones, that the S and Note are no longer unique and the design language is getting long in the tooth and boring. Am curious as what the next design will be. Could they be moving to a design that is 100% bezel-less? The S9 renders show the top bezel is so thin, that the next move could be no bezel at all. What would be cool is, no bezel. When its time to take a photo with the front camera, the camera is actually in a tray that rises out the top of the phone and goes back when you're done!
