First! Sony rolls out the February security patch to its Xperia X family, beats everyone else

Got a Sony Xperia XZ, X Performance, Xperia X or an X Compact, perchance?

Great news for you, then! It seems that Sony is currently updating said devices with the February Android security patch. Rolling under build number 34.2.A.0.311 for the Xperia X and X Compact and 39.2.A.0.417 for the XZ and the X Performance, this update essentially makes Sony's latest crop of phones the most secure ones in the Android lineup — even Google has not rolled this one to the Pixels yet.

The tech giant usually posts patch notes on in its Android security bulletin every month and only then begins rolling out the corresponding patch to its devices, but this doesn't seem to be the case yet.

It doesn't seem that the patch is bringing any other changes alongside the security hotfixes. Also, no other Xperia phones are getting this update yet.

Anyways, good job, Sony.

How is your XZ doing? I on the edge of getting a new device because my Z3 Compact is almost dead... and I am tempted of jumping brands, but the XZ seems like a nice upgrade

I'm in the same boat. I killed my Z5 and am now using my good old Z2. I had my eyes on the G6 (and the S8 if it will get FM radio), but I think I will wait for the successor of the Z5 premium that will probably launch in the beginning of the summer. No one beats Sony's UI imo.

It was pretty difficult at first to decide on it as I was going for the Note 7 initially then considered the GS7 Edge as well. Then I remembered how much of an audiophile I was and wanted the complementary Walkman headset over the Gear VR. Then I saw the XZ had stable Nougat by early December which basically closed Samsung's multitasking and battery life advantages (relatively clean UI + multiwindow is all I need). The curved display was gimmicky for me. The Edge's mono speaker was unbearable to deal with. My spidery long hands couldn't quite feel the larger screen size advantage of the Edge (I had wanted a huge high end phablet but no one delivered by Christmas). The GS7 Edge is an excellent phone no doubt, it just didn't match up with my lifestyle. Overall, I'm quite happy with my XZ. Even the usual rear facing camera flaws are tolerable with recent updates. The front facing camera is near perfect (wide @ss lens and fast PDAF helps so much with selfies). I get about 1.5 days battery life with Stamina mode off and varying the aggressiveness of Stamina mode is handy too. Charging speed is decent and Qnovo should help in the long term I guess. The display is good when the colour temperature is corrected. Decently high contrast, good viewing angles. Lack of FM radio isn't dealbreaking as radio music in my country is average. SD820 chews up everything obviously. Hold on to your Z3C until after MWC. Your next phone should be leaps and bounds better than the previous. Maybe 'Yoshino', GS8, G6 etc. will be revealed and offer a better experience.

Well yeah that's what I initially wanted, but I had to invest on a new computer for my work as a freelance 3D designer and long-story-short now I have a Surface Book which is not cheap to say the least... So now I have a cool new laptop and a phone in live-support... and I don't think I can justify premium pricing on a phone just yet... Anyway, how is the XZ in terms of durability... I really want something more durable than my Z3C which had its strong moments, but ultimately had a cracked display. dead battery and partially broken digitizer... I am considering Nokia if they bring something "higher end" to the table... and I don't want anything bigger than a 5.2" display
