Consumer choice is the focus of new Android Wear ad

Google's latest ad for Android Wear features a variety of smartwatches on a variety of wrists, illustrating the current Android tagline "Be Together. Not the same." However, as we told you the other day, some manufacturers like Huawei aren't pleased with the lack of options they have when it comes to designing the software for a new timepiece.

While these manufacturers have the ability to add their own watch faces and build the hardware, there is no way to add a unique skin that would run over Android Wear similar to what most companies do with smartphones employing the Android OS. This limits the ability for Huawei, LG, Samsung, Asus, Motorola and the myriad of other Android Wear powered smartwatch builders to differentiate their timepiece through the software.

So yes, for right now differences in design is where it's at. But that isn't the end of the world. Eventually Google might open up Android Wear and until then, it gives the manufacturers a chance to hone their skills in watch design.

Could they have gotten bigger hipsters? I mean, they just went ultimate hipster. And my motto is be a trendsetter, not a hipster. Anyway, if they want to give people choice, allow them to use Android wear on other than Android devices. That would be nice.

Its not google who isnt allowing it to be used on other devices , its other manufacturers like apple that will never allow Android Wear / iPhone integration.

They are by not making the app for other devices. Otherwise I don't see why it wouldn't run.

People forget that since this is Android Wear. Developers can make their own apps that can connect to any other bluetooth device. Including other phones or tablets. There is nothing stopping people from making any apps for the Android Wear watches or connecting even non Android devices.

I should have also added that Android Wear is currently the only smart watch platform that offers the most options and styles. Even when the Apple Watch arrives. Its still only one style. Yes there are two sizes, and other materials, but its still only one style.

My pebble watch has some Android wear support done in by Pebble themselves. Since the pebble watch lack touch screen and mic they could only do the basic Android wear notification. Bottomline is its possible and Google isn't sueing any company that add Android wear support to their smart watches. But it may not make Business sense for Apple or Microsoft to add it to their iOS or WP8/WP10.

I am in that 15 to 27 demographic. NO ONE dresses like that. Ever, unless they are obsessed with fashion.

This looks like a parody of an Apple ad. Too many hipsters.

OMG, this is such a cool ad - like, there's a catchy song, cool dance moves, and those watches... *-* .... - like, wow, me gusta, haha. :) And I don't know why many hate on it - it's cool, colorful and cheerful! Something I wish Apple ads had, hehe.
