Google's latest ad for Android Wear features a variety of smartwatches on a variety of wrists, illustrating the current Android tagline "Be Together. Not the same." However, as we told you the other day, some manufacturers like Huawei aren't pleased with the lack of options they have when it comes to designing the software for a new timepiece.

While these manufacturers have the ability to add their own watch faces and build the hardware, there is no way to add a unique skin that would run over Android Wear similar to what most companies do with smartphones employing the Android OS. This limits the ability for Huawei, LG, Samsung, Asus, Motorola and the myriad of other Android Wear powered smartwatch builders to differentiate their timepiece through the software.

So yes, for right now differences in design is where it's at. But that isn't the end of the world. Eventually Google might open up Android Wear and until then, it gives the manufacturers a chance to hone their skills in watch design.
