BLU R1 HD update brings T-Mobile VoLTE and Band 12 support for non-Prime customers

BLU released a maintenance update for the R1 HD back in November, which would enable support for T-Mobile VoLTE and Band 12. However, the update was only available to Amazon Prime exclusive version of the smartphone.

Today, more than seven months after the initial release, BLU allows customers who purchased the standard R1 HD model to download and install the update.

The official changelog mentions the update adds the VoLTE client for T-Mobile and Band 12 support, as well as the Android Security Updates. Unfortunately, it's unclear what security patch the update brings to the BLU R1 HD.

The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so make sure to manually check for it, if it doesn't show on your smartphone right away.

Once again, the update is aimed at customers who own the BLU R1 HD. If you bought the BLU R1 HD Prime Exclusive, then you already have the update on your smartphone.

Although both versions of the R1 HD come with similar specs, the Prime Exclusive model has an integrated Amazon experience that includes lockscreen offers and ads.

Moreover, the phone comes pre-installed with popular Amazon apps, which are meant to provide Prime members quicker access to their Prime benefits.

Don't trust BLU, I went thru two BLU R1 HD Amazon Prime Exclusive models and both failed to provide VoLTE after the OTA software update. I went to several locations in San Diego and tried to make numerous phone calls with the cell phone and each time I would see the 4G LTE signal drop down to 4G during the phone call and as soon as the phone call ended the 4G LTE would come back. I called BLU support and 3 different customer support employees told me the BLU R1 HD doesn't support VoLTE and I told them that's bullcrap. I returned both BLU R1 HD phones back to Amazon.

I have owned a Blu Studio Energy and I currently own a Blu Pure XL. Both of them have received one full version update and a subsequent bug patch update. It would be nice to have more people on here who knows something before they speak.

If he owns the Amazon Prime version it was only $50 or $60, yet people whine. If I take my family out for dinner it is easy to spend $60. Dinner that we all poop out the next day and have nothing to show for, yet people complain about a lack of continued update support...

Wow Doakie brother. Where do you leave? Here in Jersey when I take my family to dinner, it is never less than $120, and that's because I don't drink.

I bought the BLU R1 HD Amazon Prime version to use on TextNow with T-Mobile. It didn't work. I could hear the other person fine, but no one could understand me due to breaking up or garble. It does seam to work some with Freedompop with AT&T. The phone is a great phone if you don't need to talk on it. Works fine as a mini tablet or for everything else but VOIP calling.
